"Not everyone who has an appointment shows up every day," says Jana Šrámková, head nurse at the Hořovice Hospital's transfusion department. "Today, for example, 55 were originally ordered and 45 came in the end." But she adds that even so, this January is stronger than in the previous period. Jana Šrámková herself set an example and was among the donors today. It was her hundred and seventh donation!
Increased blood consumption contributed to the declaration of the so-called emergency regime. The nurses from the transfusion department invited by sending a text message or by calling them on the phone. Even now, blood groups 0 and A are in demand. Donors with these groups can come uninvited.
Hořovice Hospital pays great attention to promoting the idea of blood donation, especially among the young. "We try to motivate young donors and also thank them for their charity. In 2016, we registered 336 new donors. Each of them received a small gift from us," says Jana Šrámková. Last week, the ranks of first-time donors were strengthened by students of the Beroun Secondary Medical School (see photo).
"It all started with a newspaper report that hospitals were running out of blood. "There were several volunteers from every class in our school and in the final round there were 21 of us. Four of them were members of the professorial staff. We gave courage to the girls who were worried and reassured ourselves that we could do it. After all, we're doing this for a good cause. We were all very pleased with the attitude of the head nurse, Mrs. Šrámková, who was so kind and direct that she immediately relieved us of all our doubts. The whole event was quick and smooth and we are already determined to do it again and in four months you will welcome us back," adds the Beroun teacher.
