In case of urgency, it is possible to arrange a consultation outside of these days and hours.
The social worker visits patients in individual wards and has work activities outside the hospital premises as well, so we recommend to arrange a visit by phone or e-mail first.
The work of the social worker is a service for patients, their relatives and families and is free of charge.

Social work in healthcare:

• Social and health care complement and in many ways interact
• the purpose of social work in healthcare is primarily to help the client, their family and the wider environment to mitigate or eliminate the negative social consequences of illness
• the social worker is available for basic and specialist social counselling to all patients, whether outpatients or inpatients, across all departments

Social worker in hospital:

• addresses and meets the psycho-social needs of clients
• cooperates with the client's family and relatives
• handles the situation of acutely hospitalised clients (the decision whether to involve the social worker depends primarily on the doctor, who often provides the impetus for the social investigation)
• provides basic social counselling, negotiates with institutions, plans care and social rehabilitation, arranges specialised services and specialised assistance, assists with financial and housing issues
• as part of social prevention, identifies possible social difficulties and needs, carries out a deprivation survey
• establish social histories and prognoses with a view to reintegration and to ascertain whether the client's social situation will interfere with his/her treatment and worsen his/her state of health
• where reintegration is not possible, helps to arrange other forms of assistance
• applies social work methods, in particular individual work with the client, social work with the family, etc.
• respects the free decision-making of clients, analyses with clients the nature of the problems and possible solutions, but the clients remain the problem solvers
• evaluates and assesses the issue without judging the clients and their actions, respects the confidentiality of the information provided
• adheres to the code of ethics for social workers
• is a member of a multidisciplinary team, works closely with health care staff

Establishing contact:

• the client himself or the family asks the social worker for help
• the social worker is approached by a doctor or nurse from a particular department
• depistige - active search for clients by the social worker
