About the café

Handmade cakes, pastries, muffins, as well as sandwiches, baguettes, Italian pastries, sandwiches, pizzas and salads. Visitors to the hospital in Hořovice will find all this and much more in the Zavalianis Sweet café. The fact that the refreshments differ from other hospital cafeterias is evident at first glance. Visitors will find not only a wide selection of delicacies made from quality ingredients, but also free internet access, a pleasant atmosphere and friendly staff. That is why the Zavalianis Sweet café is visited not only by patients of the Hořovice hospital, but also by the inhabitants of Hořovice and the surrounding area, who do not hesitate to come to the hospital for whole cakes.

The operator of the Zavalianis Sweet café is Jannis Zavalianis, who is of Greek origin and who has big plans for his refreshments. "We already have a great selection of savoury and sweet dishes, but we are always trying something new. People are already used to finding what they know, but also complete novelties, which, according to the reactions, always pleasantly surprise them," said Jannis Zavalianis, who is glad that Czechs are not afraid to experiment. "The fact is that women are more likely to try new foods. Men usually order what they know, but women are not afraid to taste what they have never eaten before," said the smiling Greek, who relies mainly on fresh ingredients. "You can tell that we use quality ingredients and that we prepare everything ourselves. The food is fresh and tastes better."

The Zavalianis Sweet café also boasts quality coffee, which is equally important, according to the operator. "I drink seven to eight small coffees a day, so I like really good coffee, which we also offer to our customers. This is an Italian company that uses first-class coffee beans, which is evident in the final drink," said Jannis Zavalianis, who also recalled his beginnings at the hospital in Hořovice.

"We used to run a classic snack bar here, where people found mainly sandwiches, ready-made baguettes and mayonnaise salads. Customers were used to it and demanded it, but we convinced them that we could make better and fresher food, which they eventually appreciated," said Zavalianis Sweet, the café operator, who worked at the restaurant when he lived in Greece. "I worked there as a cook and I really enjoyed it. To this day, the job is a hobby for me, and I have been in the gastronomy industry since 1995. But I can't imagine doing anything else. When I create a new cake, for example, it is a kind of art form for me and that is why I love my job so much," added Jannis Zavalianis with a smile, who is planning further changes in the future, not only in the food offer, but also in the café's environment.
