Urology Department

Our urology department has triple and double rooms, which are very modern and well-equipped, including its own sanitary facilities. Two beds are equipped with vital signs monitoring systems. Patients with the need for urological surgery or conservative specialised urological care are admitted here. At the same time, we cooperate closely with surgical and other departments of our hospital. Post-operative care for patients after major urological surgeries is provided in the intensive care unit of the hospital to monitor the post-operative condition. Patients then return to standard urology beds.

We

We have several urology outpatient clinics at your disposal, located at the AKESO POLICLINIC in Prague, the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun, and three outpatient clinics at the Hospital Hořovice. All are equipped with a wide range of modern diagnostic and therapeutic devices.

The outpatient clinics providea comprehensive range of urological care, from basic physical examination methods to complete instrumental and functional examinations.
They are equipped with high-quality ultrasound devices used to perform non-invasive examinations of the urinary tract; these devices are also used for prostate biopsy, including fusion biopsy guided by magnetic resonance imaging, as well as for functional examinations of the urinary tract.

Additionally, the clinic offers comprehensive urodynamic testing to evaluate the functional parameters of the urinary system. The outpatient clinic also features the latest model of a video cystoscope. This device allows for highly detailed and, above all, minimally invasive diagnosis of diseases of the urethra and bladder (collectively, the lower urinary tract).
We have also recently acquired a device for peripheral nerve stimulation, used in the treatment of urinary incontinence.
In collaboration with the laboratory, we can collect a full range of laboratory values, including the most advanced tumor markers (PSA, PHI, etc.).
When making diagnoses, we also collaborate with the radiology department (CT, MRI, X-ray).

Outpatient urology services are provided every weekday by physicians from the Urology Department of Hospital Hořovice, as well as at the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and at the AKESO POLIKLINIKA in Prague, where a pediatric urology outpatient clinic is also located .

Most common outpatient procedures:

  • Ultrasonography
  • Prostate biopsy, including MRI-guided prostate biopsy
  • Urodynamic testing and uroflowmetry
  • Flexible cystoscopy
  • Peripheral nerve stimulation

Operating Room Care

The urology operating room performs a comprehensive range of endourological procedures (surgery on the urinary system without incisions—known as endoscopy), with a super-specialization in treating lithiasis (stones in the urinary tract).
To address this issue, we have a holmium laser and a Shockpulse device, both used to碎石 urinary calculi.

We also use state-of-the-art imaging technology for endourological procedures as well as 3D laparoscopic procedures.
For the removal of bladder tumors and prostate surgeries, we use a bipolar technique, which is gentler on the patient and improves the postoperative recovery. At the same time, the laser enucleation technique for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia, known as HoLEP (for non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate), is now routinely performed.

Of course, patients requiring traditional open surgeries on the genitals, prostate, or kidneys are also treated here. Last but not least, incontinence issues are addressed through suspension surgeries (surgeries using so-called slings).

Our surgical practice is therefore focused on minimally invasive, endourological procedures as well as maximally conservative surgeries on the kidneys.
Since 2025, our operating rooms have also been equipped with the Da Vinci XI robotic system, which we use to perform robot-assisted prostate surgeries (radical prostatectomy) for prostate cancer. We also perform procedures on the kidneys and urinary tract, such as renal resection for kidney tumors, and removal of the kidney and ureter (nephro-ureterectomy) for tumors of the upper urinary tract, or pyeloplasty for congenital or acquired disorders of the renal pelvis.
For major oncological procedures, particularly those involving the bladder (radical cystectomy), we collaborate with urology and oncology centers, notably the Urology Clinic at FNMH (Motol and Homolka University Hospitals).

Range of procedures:

  • Robotic procedures – RARP (robot-assisted radical prostatectomy), RAPN (robot-assisted nephrectomy),
  • Endourology – cystoscopy, ureteroscopy and nephroscopy (including flexible), transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP), transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURT), placement of a ureteral stent, Botox injection into the bladder wall,
  • External genital procedures – circumcision, hydrocele and spermatocele surgery, orchiectomy, frenuloplasty
  • Procedures on the urethra – optical urethrotomy, meatoplasty, urethroplasty,
  • Nephrectomy (including laparoscopic), renal resection, percutaneous epicystostomy, percutaneous nephrostomy, percutaneous stone extraction (PEK),
  • Condyloma ablation, caruncle excision, cystolithotripsy, laparoscopic renal cyst ablation, transvesical prostatectomy (TVPE),
  • Paid urological procedures - Vasectomy 18,000,-

Your general physician will perform a basic pre-operative examination with you. During urinary tract procedures, it is always necessary to test for the presence of bacteria in the urine, called urine culture. If the presence of bacteria in the urine is confirmed, it is necessary to treat this finding with targeted antibiotic treatment before the procedure.

On the day of admission, report to the surgical outpatient clinic in the morning. The anaesthesiologist will then discuss your condition and the possibility of anaesthesia with you. You will then move to the urology department where our physicians will see you.

Please remember to bring your internal pre-operative examination including additional tests, laboratory results and other necessary documents.

We currently do not have any extra rooms available in the urology department. Thank you for your understanding.

The recommended times for visits to the urology department are every day from 2 pm to 6 pm or by personal appointment.

Health information is confidential and can only be disclosed to persons designated in writing by the patient in the consent form on admission to the hospital. Information is provided by the attending physician in the afternoon or by appointment with the ward nurses.
