Urology Department

Our urology department has triple and double rooms, which are very modern and well-equipped, including its own sanitary facilities. Two beds are equipped with vital signs monitoring systems. Patients with the need for urological surgery or conservative specialised urological care are admitted here. At the same time, we cooperate closely with surgical and other departments of our hospital. Post-operative care for patients after major urological surgeries is provided in the intensive care unit of the hospital to monitor the post-operative condition. Patients then return to standard urology beds.

We have several urological outpatient clinics, which can be found in AKESO POLIKLINICE in Prague, in the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and three outpatient clinics in the Hořovice Hospital. All of them have a wide range of modern diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.

The outpatient clinics provide a comprehensive spectrum of urological care from basic physical examination methodologies to complete instrumental and functional examinations.
They have high quality sonographic equipment which is used for non-invasive examination of the urinary tract, at the same time used for prostate biopsy including fusion biopsy using magnetic resonance imaging and also for functional examination of the urinary tract.

We also offer the possibility of a comprehensive urodynamic examination to evaluate functional disorders of the lower urinary tract.

The outpatient clinics have the latest type of videocystoscope. This device can be used to diagnose diseases of the urethra and bladder (collectively, the lower urinary tract) in great detail and, above all, gently.

In cooperation with the laboratory, a wide range of laboratory values can be collected, including the most advanced cancer markers (PSA, fPSA, PHI, etc..) and hormones.
We collaborate with the radiology department (CT, MRI, X-ray) in making diagnoses.

Urology outpatient services are provided every weekday by doctors of the urology department of the Hořovice Hospital and also in the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and in AKESO POLIKLINIVKA in Prague, where there is also a paediatric urology outpatient clinic.

The most common outpatient procedures:

  • Prostate biopsy, including MRI Prostate fusion biopsy
  • Urodynamic examination and uroflowmetry
  • Flexible cystoscopy
  • Ultrasonographic examination

Inpatient care

The urology operating theatre performs a comprehensive range of endourological procedures (surgery via the urinary tract without the need for an incision - so-called endoscopy) with a super-specialisation in the management of lithiasis (stones in the urinary tract). We have a holmium laser and a Shockpulse device which we use to crush urinary concrements (stones) to address this issue. We also use the latest imaging technology for endourological procedures as well as 3D laparoscopic procedures. Bipolar technique is used for bladder tumor removal and prostate surgery, which is more patient-friendly and improves the postoperative course. At the same time, the HoLEP laser enucleation technique for benign prostatic hyperplasia (for non-cancerous prostate enlargement) is being prepared for use. Here, patients who require conventional open procedures on the genitalia, prostate or kidneys are treated. Last but not least, we deal with the problem of incontinence in the form of sling operations (operations using so-called tapes). The surgery is therefore directed towards minimally invasive, endourological operations and also maximally lifesaving operations on the kidneys. On the side of major oncological procedures on the prostate and bladder, we cooperate with urological centres that have the Da Vinci robotic system. Most of all with the Urology Clinic of Motol University Hospital.

Spectrum of procedures:

  • endourology - cystoscopy, uretero and renoscopy including flexible, transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), transurethral resection of urinary tumour. bladder (TURT), ureteral stent insertion, botox injection into the wall of the urinary tract, ureteral stent insertion, botox injection into the wall of the urinary tract (TURT). bladder,
  • procedures on the external genitalia - circumscision, hydrocele and spermatocele surgery, orchiectomy, frenuloplasty

Information about patient's condition I 14:00 - 15:00 tel. no. 311 553 023

Your general practitioner will perform a basic pre-operative examination with you. During urinary tract procedures, it is always necessary to test for the presence of bacteria in the urine, called urine culture. If the presence of bacteria in the urine is confirmed, it is necessary to treat this finding with targeted antibiotic treatment before the procedure.

On the day of admission, report to the surgical admissions clinic in the morning. The anaesthesiologist will then discuss your condition and the possibility of anaesthesia with you. You will then move to the urology department where our doctors will see you.

Please remember to bring your internal pre-operative examination including additional tests, laboratory results and other necessary documents.

We currently do not have any extra rooms available in the urology department. Thank you for your understanding.

The recommended times for visits to the urology department are every day from 2 pm to 6 pm or by personal appointment.

Health information is confidential and can only be disclosed to persons designated in writing by the patient in the consent form on admission to the hospital. Information is provided by the attending physician in the afternoon or by appointment with the ward nurses.
