"The company, a global leader in healthcare technology adoption and innovation, is becoming our partner to set up effective data-driven healthcare management and improvement. We have already made strides in this area, and our company has won prestigious management awards as a result. Now we want to go one step further," said Sotirios Zavalianis, Chairman of the Board and owner of AKESO Holding a.s., which owns and operates, among others, the Hořovice Hospital, the Diagnostic Centre of the Hořovice Hospital, the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun and Multiscan.
"I perceive AKESO as a clinical and economic partner that is unique not only in its mission and vision, but mainly in the quality and uniqueness of its care," says Michal Vondraš, Medtronic's director for the Czech Republic. "For us, this is the best alliance we can create in Central Europe," he adds.
Data enables efficient hospital management and medical operations
Together with Medtronic, AKESO will analyse medical data from individual departments and adjust new processes and procedures according to them to ensure the best possible hospital management. According to Zavalianis and Vondras, data is the alpha and omega of quality management not only in healthcare. Everyone will benefit from the newly acquired experience - patients, who will receive the best possible care, but also healthcare providers, who will benefit from the efficiency and savings.
"We currently co-manage 127 hospitals across Europe. It is not only private facilities, we are also implementing a large programme in the field of disease management (determining the correct medical procedure), for example at the University Hospital Královské Vinohrady," says Vondraš.
As part of the programme, Medtronic evaluates patient data in three areas - cardiovascular failure, stroke and acute coronary syndrome - and suggests optimisation in treatment and patient care. The programme is then tested at the workplace and subsequently rolled out not only in the Czech Republic, but also throughout Central and Eastern Europe. "In the first half of this year, we have delivered huge savings to our clients. We have increased efficiency, designed new equipment and, most importantly, given our teams the confidence to handle even challenging procedures. For example, we have had a world premiere of transcatheter valve replacement under local anaesthesia only," concludes Vondraš.
