The da Vinci robotic system from Intuitive represents the pinnacle of contemporary robotic surgery. It allows doctors to perform complex procedures with maximum precision and minimal interference with the patient's body. With a few small injections, the surgeon can control robotic instruments with high precision and in real time. The result is a lower risk of complications, less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays and a quicker return to normal life for patients.
"The acquisition of the da Vinci system is the next step in fulfilling our vision to provide the most advanced and safest care to our patients. Robotic surgery is now considered a standard in top medical facilities and we want to be among them," said the director of Hořovice Hospital , Radek Majerčin, MD.
Hořovice Hospital is approaching the introduction of robotic surgery with the utmost responsibility and emphasis on patient safety. Currently, an intensive training programme of doctors is being conducted on a specialised simulator, which simulates surgical procedures without taking place on real patients. This training regime is an important part of the preparation for the start of live operation, which is planned for the end of August. The first operations will be carried out by doctors with the assistance of experienced trainers to ensure the highest level of expertise and safety. The entire training process confirms how demanding and precise the specialisation in robotic-assisted surgery is.
"Robotic assistance gives us greater freedom of movement in the operating field and allows us to perform procedures with extraordinary precision. Hořovice Hospital is a leader in minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery in the Czech Republic. We boast well-prepared surgeons and non-medical medical staff. The da Vinci robotic system and its implementation is fast and safe, thanks to a precise training program and certification of each doctor. In addition, the first procedures are performed in the presence of a so-called proctor, who is a respected national or international expert in the field. Surgeons and hospital managers are no longer asking themselves whether to implement the robot, but rather how many systems to have on site and what procedures to perform with it," explains Martin Oberreiter, MD, Chief of Surgery.
The introduction of the da Vinci robot at Hořovice Hospital has the ambition to transform not only the way of operating itself, but also the overall approach to the patient. Thanks to less invasive procedures, it is possible to operate even on patients for whom conventional surgery would pose too high a risk.
In the future, the hospital plans to extend robotic assistance to other fields, such as orthopaedics, where the ROSA system from Zimmer has already been tested and another robotic system from Johnson & Johnson will be tested in the near future.
Robotic surgery is a combination of human experience and technological precision. In Hořovice, the future of surgery and, above all, the chance for better and safer treatment for every patient is being born.
