The first born baby was Honzik Zika. He was born at 7.23 p.m., less than twenty hours after midnight on New Year's Eve and 28 hours after the record-breaking seventh birth in 2016 was recorded in the Hořovice delivery room. "It was an unusually quiet service, because on average we record five births every day. There are also days when we have ten or more births," comments Věra Pavlů, MD, the head of the Hořovice maternity ward, who was on duty over New Year's Eve and the first day of the year. "Our maternity hospital is already known throughout the region. That's why women come here not only from the surrounding region, but also from Prague," she adds.
The New Year baby boy was 50 centimetres long and weighed 3,850 kilograms. His mother, Eva Ziková, comes from nearby Zaječov. It is her first birth. "Originally, Honzík was supposed to be born before Christmas Eve. In the end, he waited until the beginning of the New Year," says Honzik's mother. She did not hesitate to choose a maternity hospital: "Not only because of the short distance from Zaječov to Hořovice, but also because of the very favourable references from friends who had given birth here before," the newlywed mother told us. She expresses her gratitude to the doctors and nurses who helped her during the birth.
Two days later, representatives of the management of Hořovice Hospital came to wish little Honzik and his mother: the head of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department, MUDr. Aleš Klán, the head of the maternity ward, MUDr. Věra Pavlů, the head of neonatology , MUDr. Milena Dokoupilová, the head nurse of the neonatology department , Mgr. Kamila Přádová and Blanka Puldová, the station nurse of the labour wards. The same delegation wished the new mother and Honzik health and happiness and presented Mrs. Ziková with a gift package from the hospital pharmacy.
The same package was then presented to Mrs. Květa Slavíková, mother of the jubilee baby Julinka, who was born as the thousandth baby a few hours before the end of last year. Mrs. Slavíková gave birth here for the second time. Her five-year-old brother Ivo is looking forward to seeing little Julinka at home. "In the five years since the last birth, the premises of the maternity hospital have changed significantly for the better. The staff in the maternity ward is pleasant, kind and helpful and behaves professionally. I come from Beroun, but I never thought for a moment that I would give birth somewhere else," says Mrs. Slavíková.
"The maternity hospital U Sluneční brány in the Hořovice Hospital is very popular among parents. They are attracted not only by the modern equipment with all the comforts, but also by the favourable references and the friendly attitude of our staff," says MUDr. Milena Dokoupilová, head of the neonatology department. The best proof of her claim is the ever-increasing number of births - while at the time of the privatisation of the hospital in 2007 the number of births was around 1,000, last year there were 1,580 and last year a little more - 1,701. Of these, there were 864 girls and 857 boys. Twenty-one mothers gave birth to twins.
