NEMO set sail: hospital nursery opened its doors to the children of employees

Last week, the hospital's NEMO children's group started a trial run in a brand new building. Children, parents and staff are gradually getting to know and try out the functioning of the nursery and its facilities.

The new building is to accommodate up to 24 children of Hořovice hospital employees in the coming months. The hospital kindergarten was built on the basis of futuristic architectural plans. It is largely glazed and its main room is divided into three interconnecting parts: a bedroom, a dining room and a play area.

So far, about 14 children are registered, but Mgr. Daniela Korosová, the head of the children's group, is convinced that by the end of this year its capacity will be filled. "Employees are continuously signing up their children and their interest is growing, as the service helps to make it easier to reconcile family life with work duties," says Ms Korosová.

The children will be cared for by four educators with a background in education, health care and social work. They will be assisted by an assistant who has completed a nanny course. This is Mgr. Lenka Šediva, Romana Hrdličková, Pavlína Šmerhovská and Adela Jakubcová.

The nursery is open to children who have reached at least one year of age. Its operating hours are adapted to the staff's shifts and are set from 5.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. The teachers have developed a "Four Seasons" education and care plan, which will be flexibly adapted to the age of the children. A full month's attendance of a child at the facility costs parents CZK 600, while the fee for irregular attendance is set at CZK 100 per day. Another cost is the boarding fee, where parents will pay CZK 57 for a full day's board.

Last Tuesday a total of six children came to the kindergarten. "Today we visited the hospital kindergarten for the first time," says MUDr. Hana Blažková, mother of one-and-a-half-year-old Vasik. "We are pleasantly surprised by the beautiful environment. The children have lots of toys at their disposal and are looked after by friendly 'aunties'. Vasik was excited for the first time and is looking forward to the next day at the kindergarten," says the doctor from Horovice.

The initiator of the idea to set up a children's group was Ing. Sotirios Zavalianis, who invested ten million crowns to build the nursery. Among other things, the nursery is expected to help some doctors and nurses to return to work earlier.
