MUDr. Petr Běhounek: Hořovice Hospital exceeds many larger facilities in quality

27. 6. 2017

Since June this year, MUDr. Petr Běhounek, the new head of urology outpatient clinics, who recently moved from the University Hospital in Pilsen to Hořovice, has been working at the Hořovice hospital. In the following short interview, the Pilsner doctor tells us his first impressions of the Hořovice hospital and outlines his plans in the field of urology.

Doctor, could you briefly introduce yourself to our patients?

I'm married with two children. I have lived in Pilsen all my life, where I was also born and graduated from medical school. Apart from health care, which I am involved in, I am interested in cycling and, in winter, ice hockey and skiing. A special hobby for me is sauna bathing, which keeps me in good shape. In the past I also played brass instruments, but now I enjoy music only passively. However, my free time is mostly filled with my two little ones.

Where have you worked so far?

For eleven years I worked at the Urology Clinic of the Pilsen University Hospital, where I was involved in urology in its entirety. Mostly I dealt with the management of urolithiasis (urinary stones) and major oncological surgical procedures. I was also in charge of the post-operative ward where patients were hospitalized after more complicated urological procedures. I also work permanently in a private urological outpatient clinic in Pilsen, Lochotín.

What are your impressions of your work in the hospital in Hořovice so far?

In my opinion, the Hořovice Hospital is a rapidly developing and functioning institution, which significantly exceeds the quality of many larger facilities. The staff I have been able to meet is very helpful and friendly and I feel very comfortable here.

How does Hořovice compare to other hospitals in the field of urology?

So far, urology in the hospital has been more outpatient oriented. The colleagues here do a lot of good work in this direction.

What plans are you coming up with and what innovations would you like to introduce in the urology outpatient clinics?

The urology outpatient clinic will be introducing several innovations in diagnostics, from performing sonographic examinations, to biopsy examinations, to some outpatient procedures under local anesthesia. However, the biggest change we will see will be in the field of surgery, which I would like to gradually develop to a comprehensive solution of urological problems. This goes hand in hand with the vision of creating an independent urology department, which the hospital management is very much in favour of.
