"Our maternity hospital met the demanding conditions of the Call for the status of a centre of highly specialised care in the field of perinatology. Among its physicians, according to the conditions of the Call, it has, in addition to neonatologists and gynaecologists, two physicians in preparation for certification in perinatology," said MUDr. Dita Pelikánová , deputy head of the maternity hospital.
The Perinatology Centre for Intermediate Care in Hořovice provides care for immature newborns from the 31st week of pregnancy, in some cases from the 30th week of pregnancy, and for sick newborns born at term. At the same time, newborns delivered in the perinatology intensive care centres are admitted for further treatment according to their regionality.
"We are also a so-called detached workplace of the Department of Paediatric Surgery of the Motol University Hospital, from which we take over the care of newborns after surgical procedures for treatment or awaiting definitive surgery. We provide this care not only for our region, but we also receive mothers from Prague, Pilsen and surrounding regions," says MUDr. Milena Dokoupilová, head of the neonatal department and manager of the maternity hospital.
The intensive care unit for newborns in the Hořovice maternity hospital has 10 beds with complete equipment for all intensive care, including non-invasive and invasive ventilation support, and 6 beds in the rooming-in system. The ward is known for its family-oriented approach. There are no visiting hours and parents have unrestricted access to their children. They are also involved in the care of their immature or sick babies from birth itself. This is very beneficial for both the babies and the parents who might be worried about caring for fragile babies.
