The Hořovice Hospital is introducing a new programme to promote the health of the population in the Beroun region from April this year. Among the new projects to be implemented during this year, it is worth mentioning the preventive programmes of the transfusion department. This largest transfusion station of the Central Bohemian Region has launched special preventive programmes for its 11,000 donors, including consultation with a specialist. They are called FIT WOMAN or FIT MALE and are aimed at donors under 40, while the VITAL WOMAN or VITAL MALE programmes are aimed at donors over 40. These programmes will include the provision of a medical history, i.e. the information needed to analyse the patient's health in more detail (physical examination, including an orientation examination for eyesight and skin tumours, blood tests, urine tests, abdominal ultrasound, ECG or lung X-ray).

"This way we make it clear to the public that our goal is not only to treat people, but also to focus on their preventive health", says Luděk Pelikán, MD, Director of Hořovice Hospital. He also recalls that last year the hospital organized various educational programs, presentations and lectures.

As part of the same programme, this year the Hořovice Hospital was represented for the first time at the traditional Karlštejn Castle Festival, which took place on Sunday 16 March 2014. An ambulance and medical staff of the Hořovice Hospital were available to visitors of the Karlštejn Festival. "We measured the visitors' blood sugar and blood pressure and also performed a functional lung examination - spirometry," says Jiří Pichlík, the head of the team of Hořovice paramedics at the Karlštejn Festival. He adds that the paramedics demonstrated resuscitation aids, including instruction. "The whole day was accompanied by good mood, but the sad weather was the reason for a much lower attendance than originally expected", says Pichlík.

In addition, from May 2014, the Hořovice Hospital will launch a continuous Online Medical Advisory Service on its website. "Patients' questions will be answered as soon as possible by one of the hospital's doctors, who will also coordinate a team of colleagues from different specialties for this purpose", adds Luděk Pelikán, the hospital's director.
