This year, for the first time, the Hořovice hospital is also participating in the campaign. The idea of growing a moustache was suggested by the doctors of the orthopaedic department, and the idea quickly took root and spread among the doctors and non-medical staff of the hospital. At the same time, the idea of organising a fundraiser was born, to which not only employees but also visitors to the hospital can contribute. "The idea of joining the campaign was immediately supported by the hospital management," comments MUDr. Michla Průša, Director of the hospital in Hořovice. "We plan to use the money raised by the fundraiser to purchase equipment to perform biopsies of prostate tumours under ultrasound control," adds the hospital director. Every visitor to the hospital can make a financial contribution to the collection in a prepared and marked box in the lobby of the main entrance of the hospital.
There is no doubt that prostate cancer has been a topic of recent years, both among oncologists and the general public. "This is mainly due to the huge development of new treatment methods, starting with robotic surgery, through the boom of new radiation techniques to the introduction of about ten new drugs for the treatment of this cancer," says Martin Šmakal, MD, head of the oncology inpatient unit at Hořovice Hospital.
At the beginning of the campaign, a group photo session was held with about twenty employees of the hospital, who took part in the event in person (see photo). A large number of medical and non-medical staff wore a sign with the Movember logo for a whole month as an expression of sympathy with the campaign. The next photo shoot of the newly born "moustache" will be repeated towards the end of November.
