On Saturday, October 3, the traditional Onion Fair in Hořovice took place. From the morning hours, the town centre was filled with visitors from near and far. Among the abundance of stalls with various goods, the Hořovice Hospital also had its stand.

The stand of the Hořovice Hospital was located in the lobby of the Municipal Office, where the social services operating in the town were also presented. At the hospital's stand, visitors could have their blood pressure or blood sugar measured, which was welcomed by passers-by given the number of surrounding refreshment stands. A paramedic from the hospital's anaesthesiology and resuscitation department was also on site to give basic information on first aid. "On the spot, we measured the blood sugar levels of several dozen visitors with a simple test," said Dan Brož, a nurse at the internal medicine department of the Hořovice hospital. "We are happy that all the results were within normal limits and we did not record any cases of diabetes," added Dan Brož. The Hořovice hospital continues its preventive actions aimed at teaching citizens to take care of their health.

Preventive actions are a solid part of the activities of the Hořovice Hospital, which are related to promoting the health of the population in the Beroun region. "This way, we make it clear to the public that our goal is not only to cure people, but also to teach them how to prevent diseases - through early prevention," says Mgr. Kateřina Vicková, Marketing Specialist at Hořovice Hospital. She recalls that since last year the hospital has already organised a number of educational programmes, presentations and lectures.

Among the projects implemented, she mentions, for example, the preventive programmes of the transfusion department. The largest transfusion station of the Central Bohemian Region has been running special preventive programmes for a long time, including consultations with an expert. They are called FIT FEMALE or FIT MALE and are aimed at donors under 40, while the VITAL FEMALE or VITAL MALE programmes are aimed at donors over 40. These programs include a medical history (pre-natal) and physical examination including an orientation exam for vision and skin tumors, blood tests, urinalysis, abdominal ultrasound, EKG or lung x-ray. So far, nearly 200 donors of the Horovice Transfusion Station have taken advantage of this offer. Further educational events are planned in cooperation with schools and other institutions.
