What spectrum of care do you provide within the neurological paediatric outpatient clinic?
As far as paediatric neurology is concerned, the outpatient clinic focuses on general comprehensive care for paediatric neurological patients, including the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy.
The pediatric outpatient clinic at Hořovice Hospital is open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Tuesdays, I will be consulting at the Diagnostic Centre of Hořovice Hospital in Nové Butovice, Prague. Friday is reserved for adult epilepsy patients. You can make an appointment for the outpatient clinics at the hospital via the reception at 311555000.
What are the most common diagnoses you deal with in the outpatient clinic?
The most common childhood diagnoses are definitely seizure disorders, epilepsy and other conditions such as syncope, affective seizures, tic disorders etc. We also often see headaches, whether they are migraines or tension cephalea. The possible interaction with a paediatric psychologist is also an advantage here, as a considerable part of the problems of paediatric neurological patients have a psychosomatic dimension.
At the Hořovice Hospital we are able to perform complex diagnostics of neurological problems, including EEG and MRI, which we use in our sister hospital in Beroun and will also be available at the Diagnostic Centre in Butovice.
Of course, rare diagnoses, such as inherited metabolic disorders, neurodegeneration or serious neuromuscular disorders, are always referred, like all smaller workplaces, to the relevant centres of highly specialised care, such as the Motol University Hospital, and any further dispensation of these patients will be carried out in cooperation with them.
Will you also provide consular activities in the hospital?
Yes, because the Hořovice Hospital also has a neonatology department and paediatric beds, including a long-term intensive and nursing care unit for children, it is necessary to provide consular activities for hospitalised patients with neurological and neurodevelopmental problems. The advantage is that, as part of the comprehensive care provided by our hospital, we can follow these paediatric patients in a multidisciplinary manner over the long term.
Will you be collaborating with other departments in the hospital?
Yes, many neurological diagnoses require long-term and multidisciplinary collaboration. In addition to the paediatricians, neonatologists and psychologists already mentioned, there is very close collaboration with rehabilitation, which is at a very good level in our hospital. For many patients, for example, those with cerebral palsy or various serious post-traumatic conditions, long-term rehabilitation is very important, practically lifelong. It is essential to alleviate and prevent the associated difficulties and thus significantly improve the quality of life of such patients.
Why did you choose Hořovice Hospital?
I studied at the medical faculty in Pilsen, after graduation I joined the neurology clinic of the University Hospital in Pilsen, where I took a certificate in adult neurology. In 2014 I enrolled in the field of paediatric neurology and since my attestation in 2017 I have been focusing on this field. I completed my clinical epileptology internship at the pediatric and adult epilepsy center of Motol University Hospital.
I would like to focus here primarily on pediatric patients and patients with epilepsy. This was the main motivation for coming to work at Hořovice Hospital. The fact that there is a great potential to have the space and opportunity to devote myself to what I enjoy most, and that is pediatric patients and epilepsy in general.
