Ensuring the European Parliament elections for voters hospitalized in the Hořovice Hospital

22. 4. 2014

Dear Patients,
The European Parliament elections are taking place on 23 and 24 May 2014. On these days, Hořovice Hospital will ensure the proper conduct of the elections for voters who, due to hospitalization, cannot exercise their right to vote at their place of residence. Each voter must prove his/her identity and citizenship of the Czech Republic with a valid ID card before voting. There are two ways in which a patient can cast his or her vote: firstly, by means of a voter's card, which the voter can obtain himself or herself. If a citizen applies for a voter's card, he/she only applies to his/her office of residence. The voter either receives the voter card in person, authorises a close person to receive it, or sends it by post to any address that the citizen specifies. With this voter card, he or she can vote anywhere in the country, i.e. even at home at the place of permanent residence.
The second way is to register on a special voters' list kept by the municipality. You will be registered by filling in a form, which will be handed over to you by the nurses at the department on request. The form can be filled in until Friday, 2 May at 12:00 p.m., after which the complete Special Voters List will be handed over to the municipal office. We would like to point out that if a patient is placed on the special electoral roll, they are automatically removed from the permanent electoral roll where they live. A voter can only be registered in one of these. It follows that the only place where a patient will be able to cast a vote after being registered on the special list will be at our hospital facility. Patients must therefore weigh up the potential risk of early discharge for themselves. The opportunity to vote will be through a portable ballot box, which the Electoral Commission will take around the wards.
