Premature babies have been found hugging octopuses, whose tentacles probably remind babies of the umbilical cord and soft cotton of the mother's womb. They have a regular heartbeat, breathe better and are calmer.
"This way we would like to thank for the prepared packages with octopuses from Nedoklubek, but also all the volunteer donors who bring or send octopuses to the hospital," says Mgr. Kamila Přádová, head nurse of the Hořovice neonatology.
The idea of octopuses originated in Denmark, quickly spread all over the world and found its supporters in the Czech Republic as well. Many good souls with a desire to help and a heart in the right place have joined Nedoklubko and only thanks to them can the octopuses be given to where they are needed.
With the help of the wider public, the Mums for Mums project supports mothers of premature babies in maternity hospitals with a small gift, an encouraging message or an information leaflet. Mothers, grandmothers, maternity centres and senior homes make small gifts. The project coordinators then complete them with a leaflet with practical information, a tag with a kind message and take them to mothers in premature birth centres across the country several times a year.
