"This year we have 1,058 births as of last July, which is 79 more than last July," says Mgr. Pavla Fikarová, head nurse of the gynaecology and obstetrics department.
"Our obstetricians and midwives try to communicate kindly with the parents, they try to meet their wishes, support them and behave empathetically. And this approach is gradually building a great reputation of our maternity hospital, to which the background of our neonatology also contributes to a great extent. Thanks to the high level of neonatological care, we can deliver women here from the 30th week of pregnancy," explains the reasons for the popularity of the Hořovice maternity hospital Věra Pavlů, MD.
According to the statistics of the neonatology department, a total of 1,063 babies have been born in Hořovice since the beginning of this year. 491 of them are girls and 572 boys. By the end of July we recorded six pairs of twins.
The increased or growing number of births certainly increases the demands on all the staff in the delivery rooms. "Sometimes I really don't know where my head stands. However, our work is a team effort, and a well-coordinated team must and does handle all situations in the delivery room with precision," comments Dr. Pavlů on the situation in the delivery rooms.
Traditionally, most babies are born in the summer months. This fact is confirmed by this year's statistics of the Hořovice maternity hospital. July was the most fertile month in this respect with 170 babies born, while June ranks second with 160 babies born. Asked if there is any scientific explanation for the higher birth rate in the summer months, Dr Pavlů says there is no such thing. "But the truth is that we regularly register a greater influx of births during significant meteorological changes. And we can expect it before or after a storm or even during a storm. As you can see, there is still a lot unexplored in obstetrics," explains the doctor from Horovice.
Expectant mothers come to the U Sluneční brány maternity hospital, the largest in Central Bohemia, not only from all over Berounsko, but also from the surrounding area. "Since the beginning of the year, 20% of the total number of mothers have come from Prague or its vicinity and another 20% from various areas of the Central Bohemia and Pilsen regions. Parents from Prague prefer to give birth in the quieter environment of our maternity hospital and do not mind travelling to our prenatal clinics for check-ups in the last weeks of pregnancy," adds Dr Pavlů.
