A new record in the number of births was confirmed by the birth of Nikolka Smržová from Hudlice. She was born one hour and two minutes after midnight on New Year's Eve. It was the first New Year's baby born in Hořovice and the second in the Central Bohemia Region. He missed the first place by only four minutes.
The first birth in 2015 took place without complications. Nikolka Smržová weighed 2.60 kilograms and measured 46 centimetres. She was originally due to be born before Christmas Eve and her second due date was 27 December. In the end, she waited until the beginning of the New Year. "We drove to the hospital from Hudlice almost at the last minute, a few minutes before midnight," says her mother Michaela Jedličková. "I am a first-time mother, so I delayed going to the hospital. We were in Hořovice at 12:30 and half an hour later, Nikolka was born," says the new mother. She didn't hesitate with her choice of a maternity hospital: "Not only because of the short distance from Hudlice to Hořovice, but also because of very favourable references from my aunt who works here," says Mrs Jedličková. She expresses her gratitude to the doctors and nurses who helped her during the birth.
At the same time, she admits that she was surprised not only by the interest of journalists in her birth, but also by the visit of Pavel Hubené, a councillor of the Central Bohemian Region and the mayor of her native Hudlice. The councillor was greeted at the hospital by Deputy Chief Operating Officer Tomáš Petsinis and the hospital's head nurse Blanka Červenková, who accompanied him to the happy mother to congratulate her. In addition to flowers, they presented her with a package with everything needed for the baby, prepared by the hospital pharmacy.
"The maternity hospital U Sluneční brány in the Hořovice Hospital is very popular among mothers, not only from the catchment area, but also from Prague and other towns in the Central Bohemia region. They are attracted not only by the modern equipment with all the comforts, but also by the favourable references and the friendly attitude of our staff," says Luděk Pelikán, M.D., Director of the Hořovice Hospital. The best proof of his claim is the ever-increasing number of births - while at the time of the privatisation of the hospital in 2007 the number of births was around 1,000, last year there were 1,414 and last year again more - 1,527 births. "The increasing number of births is due to the modernisation of the maternity ward and the work of a highly qualified team of doctors, nurses and nursing staff," the director said.
