On Monday, a five-member delegation from the Georgian Ministry of Health and other health institutions visited the Hořovice hospital. The foreign delegation was surprised not only by the high standard of the Hořovice hospital and the newly renovated modern premises, but also by the pleasant environment and professional staff.

The Georgian delegation flew to Prague at the invitation of the Czech Development Agency. The Agency performs tasks in the field of foreign development cooperation, including in the area of health care. The visit is part of a larger project to develop children's palliative care in Georgia. "More than a year ago, I was approached as the chairwoman of the Children's Palliative Care Working Group of the Czech Society of Pediatric Palliative Care by representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic and the Czech Development Agency to collaborate on a project to develop children's palliative care in Georgia," says MUDr. Mahulena Mojžíšová, head of the Children's Department at Hořovice Hospital. "This was followed by a several-day visit to Georgia, during which we jointly mapped the most pressing problems in the field of care for terminally ill children and planned further cooperation, which includes the current visit of the Georgian government delegation to the Czech Republic", she adds.

The five Georgian leaders had the opportunity to visit the Neonatology Department, including the Intensive Care Unit, the Children's Ward, which includes beds for children with life-limiting illnesses, and the Children's Chronic Resuscitation and Intensive Care Unit (OCHRIP). The head of the children's ward, MUDr. Mahulena Mojžíšová, and the head of OCHRIP , MUDr. Daniel Blažek, informed the Georgian delegation about the operation and cooperation of both wards in the care of children with life-limiting diagnoses, the equipment, and the specific problems of care for such sick children and their families.

The Georgian delegates were keenly interested in the mode of operation of the above-mentioned departments, the financing of this type of care, the necessary staffing and the quality of the equipment and treatment procedures. During their stay in the Czech Republic for several days, the delegation members visited the Ministry of Health, where they learned about the systemic changes that are taking place in the field of children's palliative care in the Czech Republic. They also had the opportunity to learn about the environment of other medical facilities, including mobile hospices, which deal with the care of terminally ill children and their families. The cooperation between the Czech and Georgian sides in the field of development of children's palliative care will continue at the governmental and professional level.
