Movember is an annual charity event focusing on men's health, in particular awareness and prevention of uro-oncological diseases, especially prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and suicide among men. The name is a combination of two English words - Moustache and November.
People can support the charity in several ways. Perhaps the most well-known is growing a moustache throughout the month of November. In addition, individuals, groups, businesses or sponsors can make donations to Movember or Men Against Cancer. Financial proceeds from the event will be used to support research, diagnosis and treatment of uro-oncology diseases.
"In 2019, medical and non-medical staff of the orthopaedic, urology and ARO departments of Hořovice Hospital actively participated in the event. We all made a promotional video to encourage all men to think about their health and get a preventive examination," says the head of the orthopaedic department, Milan Pastucha, MD, and the main initiator of the event at Hořovice Hospital, adding: "I think that the video was a success, as evidenced by the positive feedback from the surrounding area, 43.7 thousand views and 550 shares on social networks."
This year, the urology department of Hořovice Hospital was supported by the Men Against Cancer Foundation with the purchase of a new bioptic gun and 200 bioptic needles.
