Hořovice Orthopaedics has newly introduced an innovative minimally invasive method called AMIS, or anterior approach. This method brings a number of advantages to patients.
According to Petr Palásek, MD, orthopaedic surgeon at the Hořovice department, the anterior approach is more gentle for the patient. "In this minimally invasive procedure, the operated joint is approached between two muscle groups that are only bluntly separated. There is no disruption or damage to the muscles and overall tissue damage is minimized. This can also result in less blood loss and faster recovery for the patient," he explains.
Other key benefits include a quicker restoration of full hip joint mobility. Compared to traditional methods, hip instability is minimized, and a quicker restoration of the original range of motion is possible.
"The surgery itself takes approximately one hour. The patient stays in the hospital for about five days and then continues rehabilitation. Experience from the USA, Denmark, the Netherlands and Belgium shows that this type of surgery can even be performed in a one-day care mode, where the patient goes home on the second day after the procedure," says Milan Pastucha, MD, head of the orthopaedic department.
Another great advantage of the AMIS method is the possibility of full rotation of the hip joint and deep sitting immediately after the operation, without the need for lightening.
"We introduced the anterior approach hip surgery in Hořovice in October 2024. Since then we have operated on 100 patients. At the moment, only I and MUDr. Petr Palásek operate with this method. At the same time, we are already training our other medical colleagues to be independent with this method. In the future, our capacity will increase even more," says the chief surgeon.
The standard of orthopaedics in Hořovice is comprehensive care including pre-operative preparation of the patient, the operation itself, post-operative care and the possibility of providing subsequent rehabilitation.
The anterior approach surgery is suitable for most patients and can be performed with any type of implant.
The main advantages of the anterior approach are:
- Less tissue damage, especially to muscles
- Lower blood loss
- Faster rehabilitation
- Lower postoperative pain
Hořovice Orthopaedics thus brings patients a modern approach to joint surgery that minimises risks and ensures a faster return to an active life.
