"The IBD working days were created with the idea of bringing together surgeons, gastroenterologists, nurses and workers from other disciplines who specialize in the treatment of non-specific intestinal inflammation (IBD)," says Zuzana Šerclová, MD, Chief of the Surgical Department of Hořovice Hospital and Chair of the IBD Surgery Section of the Czech Surgical Society.
This year, the main representatives of the IBD Working Group of the Gastroenterological Society and the IBD Surgery Section of the Surgical Society, physicians from other disciplines and medical staff gathered at Zbiroh Castle for the fourth time to exchange their experience and knowledge on IBD.
The working days started with workshops at the Hořovice Hospital, during which doctors participated in operations for Crohn's disease and nurses improved their skills in the care of patients with intestinal ducts. The theoretical part continued at Zbiroh Castle. A solemn lecture, about the history of IBD surgery, was given by Prof. MUDr. František Antoš from the Bulovka Department, who has spread modern surgical procedures for IBD patients in our country.
"This year, part of the programme was dedicated to intensive care and adolescents. Other blocks dealt with the most common mistakes and problems in the diagnosis, conservative and surgical treatment of IBD patients. It was challenging for the speakers to prepare such lectures, but the rich discussion showed that the topic was very useful," says MUDr. Šerclová.
Problems in the treatment of biologics were elaborated by Prof. Milan Lukáš, M.D., Chairman of the Gastroenterological Society, and the rules in the relationship with care payers were elaborated by Martin Bortlík, M.D., Chairman of the IBD Working Group. In the nurses' section, among other topics, dietary measures in IBD patients, new developments in patient organization, as well as physiotherapy care for patients and medical staff were discussed.
A side program of the conference was a presentation of companies offering a spectrum of drugs and medical equipment for the medical and surgical treatment of IBD patients.
"I believe that the participants took away new knowledge and experience from the conference and I firmly hope that a similar conference will be repeated in future years," praised the director of the Hořovice hospital , MUDr. Michal Průša.
