Why was this position created in the first place?
For me, the maternity ward should be seen as a whole. But historically, it's been divided into several departments everywhere. The gynaecology ward, where pregnant women are admitted because of complications during pregnancy, then the labour wards, the six-week ward and the neonatal ward, which somewhere includes a neonatal intensive care unit. And I've forgotten about the pregnancy outpatient clinics. So, in a very short period of time, a mother actually passes through four wards that function quite separately, and this care needs to be very intensively integrated and unified. Obstetrics and neonatology are very progressive disciplines that have changed their procedures and especially their approaches to mothers in recent years.
Do you have any experience of such a position?
On the one hand, of course I don't, on the other hand I've actually been kind of doing it for many years. I have built delivery rooms in addition to my neonatology clinic, and this summer I managed to complete new family suites, which are in great demand. I'm trying to put new practices into practice that involve all parts of the maternity ward.
What do you expect from this?
That remains to be seen, of course :o). This position will allow me to deal with problems, situations, plan and have visions of what to do next in an even more comprehensive way. I believe that besides the fact that we are still the largest maternity hospital in the Central Bohemia region, we also provide very superior services for expectant mothers and their babies and support the formation of the family as a whole from the very birth.
What are the nearest plans?
I see improving the accessibility of information for expectant mothers as the most important. We have created a new logo for the maternity hospital, an instagram account will be launched from the beginning of December, and we are preparing our own website, which will be clear and full of information. We have started organizing antenatal talks in the AKESO POLICLINIC in Prague for Prague mothers to introduce them to our maternity hospital. In the future, I would like to provide only single rooms for mothers after giving birth, where the father or older sibling can be accommodated if he wishes.
We wish the maternity hospital only happy mothers. ❤️
