Specialized teaching classroom and facilities for clinical practice of students of the Faculty of Health Studies of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen (FZS ZČU) will be built in the Hospital Hořovice. The Memorandum of Long-term Cooperation was signed on 19 May by the Rector of ZČU Miroslav Lávička and Sotirios Zavalianis, owner of the AKESO medical holding. The partnership also envisages joint research projects with other faculties of ZČU.

As many as eighty students a year are already doing their internships in AKESO holding hospitals, for example in Hospital Hořovice, Beroun or at the AKESO POLICLINIC in Prague. These are students of general nursing, midwifery, physiotherapy or occupational therapy. They will now have a stable and modern background for theoretical teaching and clinical practice with the latest equipment and the most modern procedures at the Hospital Hořovice.

The cooperation agreement between ZČU and AKESO contributes to the implementation of the government's programme to increase the number of students in the medical fields. "For higher numbers of students, we also need more professional partners who will recruit them for practice. Therefore, I am pleased that we are expanding our cooperation with modern workplaces of AKESO holding hospitals, where students will gain experience not only during internships, but will also receive part of their training on-site," said the Rector of ZČU , Prof. RNDr. Miroslav Lávička, Ph.D.

The Czech healthcare system has long been lacking non-medical medical personnel, which is why AKESO sees cooperation with the university as an investment in the future of healthcare. "We have been preparing for the cooperation on teaching by training our own experts. For almost two years we have been training employees who pass on their know-how to the students," said AKESO Holding owner Ing. Sotirios Zavalianis.

In addition to practical training, the Memorandum also envisages joint research projects with other faculties of ZČU. They can participate in the development of modern technologies in healthcare in the future. The cooperation will also focus on promoting the mental health of students and employees of the entire university. Therefore, the Mental Rehabilitation Centre of AKESO Holding and the ZČU Ombudsman will also be involved.
