Billion-dollar investment. In Hořovice there will be a pavilion for people with covid-19

Within four years at the latest, a special pavilion capable of accepting a larger number of patients with covid-19 and other communicable diseases of a similar type will begin to operate at the hospital in Hořovice.

Preparatory work for the construction began last autumn. According to the original plans, the hospital was to be expanded with a new central reception and central sterilisation, triple the number of intensive care beds and increase the number of operating theatres with orthopaedic and multidisciplinary ones.
After the spring coronavirus pandemic, the owner of the hospital , Sotirios Zavalianis, decided to make changes. "We want to create a medical facility that will be ready for the next possible pandemic. That is why we increased the planned budget by CZK 300 million and adjusted the project so that we will be ready to receive a large number of patients with the communicable infectious disease covid-19 and not endanger the normal operation of the hospital," announced Sotirios Zavalianis.

Central reception with isolation

According to the new plans, the new wing will, for example, include more entrances, a variable air conditioning system inside and a central reception area adapted for the possible isolation of patients.
"Given the current situation, we also want to negotiate with the regional representatives to include Hořovice Hospital among the healthcare facilities that can accept patients with infectious diseases of the covid-19 type," Zavalianis said.
During the first coronavirus wave, an isolation ward for people suspected of being infected with coronavirus was created at the Hořovice hospital from the internal medicine ward. "We were placing suspected patients (with suspected infection) there. If the examination showed that they were positive for covid-19, we transferred the more severe patients to the specialised infectious diseases wards of the university hospitals in Prague and Plzeň," said director Michal Průša.
In this way, the hospital examined dozens of patients with suspected coronavirus infection. During the epidemic, five employees who tested positive for covid-19 ended up in quarantine.

The spring coronavirus outbreak did not stop preparatory work on the construction of a new pavilion at the Hořovice hospital or the construction of a mental health centre at the CZK 1.3 billion Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun.
"We continued without any restrictions. Both constructions are being carried out by our construction company. We have divided the individual teams so that they are constantly rotating on the construction site and come into limited contact. The constructors had also divided the construction cells," said the owner of the hospitals.

The Beroun Mental Rehabilitation Centre currently has a completed foundation slab and first floor. The entire rough construction will be ready in ten months. It will start functioning for patients within three years. It will treat all psychiatric illnesses both in the inpatient ward and outpatient clinics. The inpatient section will be able to accommodate up to 200 patients. The beds will be divided into acute beds (for patients with acute psychiatric conditions), for the treatment of chronic and long-term diagnoses, and for prevention programmes. The outpatient area will include a gymnasium, fitness room, swimming pool, space for art therapy, theatre or cinema.
The new pavilion of the Hořovice Hospital will be built in the southern part of its premises. The total cost of its construction and equipment will reach CZK 1.9 billion. "We expect it to be completed in three to three and a half years," said Sotirios Zavalianis.
The first patients will head here within four years at the latest. The hospital will open the new facilities on a rolling basis as they are completed.

Entry will be accelerated by the app

Currently, both the Hořovice Hospital and the Rehabilitation Hospital Beroun require patients to wear a drape or mouthpiece indoors.
At the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital, patients use a special app called Akeso eTriáž for faster check-ups. "It is a publicly available application in which the visitor fills in his data in advance and thanks to the QR code he receives, his passage through the control tent is much faster," said the hospital director Nataša Petsini. It takes a few minutes to complete the questionnaire via the app. The QR code will be sent to the patient's mobile phone and is valid for 72 hours. "The app is not compulsory. It is still possible to fill in the data on the spot. But we are happy when patients use the app. It will ensure to a large extent speeding up when entering the hospital," Natasha Petsini added.
Thermal cameras have been installed in the entrances of the hospital in Horovice to display the current body temperature of the incoming patient. "If an elevated temperature is measured, we will examine him in a separate outpatient clinic and decide on further action," added hospital spokeswoman Petra Horáková.

In the Beroun region, 104 people have been infected since the beginning of March. 92 have been cured and one person has died. There are currently 11 infected people.
