The story of Monika from Beroun shows how important it is to make the right and quick decision at the right moment.

When she found out she had covid, she was surprised. She protected herself and the expected baby as best she could. She didn't associate much with anyone and was more than cautious given her condition. "That's why I was so surprised. I didn't know where I could have gotten it," says Monika. She had a classic course: a bad cold, then fever and cough. After a while, she lost her sense of taste and smell. "I was 30 weeks pregnant. I couldn't bring down the fever and the coughing fit was always for twenty minutes. So the next day I called the GP who told me that I couldn't take anything except the paracetamol. Unfortunately, he didn't help me. When my condition was still the same, I got worried if it could affect the baby. Moreover, my abdomen started getting hard and I couldn't feel any movement, that's when I started calling hospitals because the GP and the gynaecologist were tossing me around like a hot potato," she says of her anabasis with the doctors. She was very disappointed with their attitude, but she had no time and took matters into her own hands.

She was very scared

"After contacting various hospitals, I finally called the hospital in Horovice, where I was immediately admitted. During the entire examination, which lasted 45 minutes, the baby did not move. I started to prepare myself for a big problem. But is it possible to prepare for that? I didn't feel any emotions at that moment, I was completely switched off. Plus, I have HELLP syndrome myself, a blood clotting problem, so they took me to the OR immediately. All I could do was call my boyfriend and tell him it was bad and I didn't know if we were gonna make it. He cried on the phone...," the young woman describes. After that, she says she only remembers the anaesthesia. When she started to come out of it, she heard the sentence, "It's a boy!"

Separation from her son

After giving birth, she was transferred to the covid ward, where she stayed for 14 days. "In addition, I had left-sided pneumonia and didn't see the little one the whole time. Now it's been a month since we've been in hospital and the little boy is fine in the incubator. But because of everything that happened, I had to start working with a psychologist. I hadn't formed a relationship with my son at all. Because of the illness, when my boyfriend was positive, we didn't see him at all for the first few days. I don't know what the consequences will be, but I believe this will get better with time. I think it's crucial to be with the baby in the first few days after birth, but unfortunately we couldn't. Anyway, I'm so glad it all worked out. I don't even want to imagine that it would have been different," concludes the new mother. She hopes that the future of her whole family will be on the track they dreamed of. She says that she was originally told that she would have a girl, so she was surprised, but that is not important now. What matters is that she, her boyfriend and their son are healthy.
