More precisely, it is a record-breaker. In the week before spring, Mrs. Ivana Kučerová visited the transfusion station for the hundred and twentieth time! According to her own words, she has been donating blood since she was 25 years old, the first time she donated the irreplaceable fluid in 1976.
Since then she went with a group of her friends and colleagues to the hospital in Příbram, and since 2000 she has been donating blood at the Hořovice Hospital. Here she particularly appreciates the friendly and helpful attitude of the medical staff and the overall pleasant atmosphere. The primary motive for her decision to become a regular donor, according to her, was her husband's surgery, during which he received a blood transfusion. Blood donation is almost a tradition in her family. Mrs Kučerová took over the baton from her father, and nowadays she donates with her sister, who also accompanied her during the anniversary donation. She herself has not needed a blood transfusion yet, and enjoys good health even as she grows older.
The Transfusion Department in Hořovice is the largest of its kind in the Central Bohemia Region, with 11,751 blood donations in 2014 alone, of which 550 were new. As of 31 December last year, 5,824 free blood donors were registered in the records. Many thanks go to the regular group donors, such as police officers from Hořovice, Beroun, Rudná, Zbiroh or Příbram, volunteer firefighters, students of the grammar schools in Beroun and Hořovice, Hořovice mothers and others. The fact that the hospital appreciates its donors is also reflected in the events that the blood transfusion station regularly organises for them, such as the Tomáš Klus concert in 2014, the St. Nicholas gift in December or the recent St. Valentine's Day event in February - Do you love? Donate blood! The Hořovice Hospital also implements a preventive health programme for its donors, which is tailored to the donors' age.
