The hospital provides high quality care in gynaecology and obstetrics. Now also in the field of pediatric gynecology

Since January this year, one of the recognized "capacities" in the field of pediatric gynecology has been working in the Hořovice hospital. We are talking about MUDr. Leoš Teslík, who recently moved from Motol to Hořovice. During his short stay at the hospital, the doctor has gained the sympathy and appreciation not only of his colleagues, but also of nurses and patients. In the following short interview, Dr. Teslík talks about his specialty and outlines his plans in Hořovice.

Doctor, could you briefly introduce yourself to our patients?

After graduating from the First Faculty of Medicine in Prague, I have been working at Motol University Hospital since 1990. I have I and II certificates in gynaecology and obstetrics. Since 1992, I have also been working in paediatric gynaecology. In 1998, I passed the specialisation certification in this field and I am a holder of the international IFEPAG certificate, which allows me to perform conservative and surgical treatment of children all over the world.

How is the transition from a large hospital like Motol to a smaller district hospital?

I do not see any problem in transferring from a university hospital because the hospital in Hořovice is a renowned modern facility that provides very high quality care in gynaecology and obstetrics, as evidenced by the growing number of deliveries and surgical procedures. My personal impressions of the work I have done so far at the department are very positive.

You specialise in paediatric gynaecology. How many doctors are dedicated to this specialty and what plans are you coming to Hořovice with?

There are many doctors working in the field of paediatric gynaecology throughout the Czech Republic, mostly in the outpatient sphere. Logically, the management of the local hospital was also interested in expanding the range of care provided by the field of paediatric gynaecology.

After the closure of the specialised centre in Motol, which dealt with outpatient and surgical treatment of children from all over the Czech Republic, and postgraduate training of doctors, this opportunity was offered here. I joined Hořovice together with MUDr. Tereza Hubová (see photo), who also dealt with this issue in Motol. Twice a week, since January this year, we have been providing gynaecological care for children and adolescents from all over the Czech Republic in our Prague outpatient clinic. In addition, a new gynaecological outpatient clinic will soon be opened in the outpatient wing of the local hospital, which should provide gynaecological care for paediatric patients at least twice a week.

Who do you want to reach with your specialisation in such a small town? Aren't you worried about fewer patients?

We offer examination and treatment of inflammatory diseases of the genitals, menstrual cycle disorders, treatment of adolescent and growth disorders, and comprehensive care for girls with congenital developmental defects and cancer.

This requires close cooperation with general practitioners for children and adolescents, hospital paediatricians, paediatric endocrinologists, surgeons and urologists, whose outpatient clinics will be provided with a service in the form of consular examinations. Given the current situation in the field of paediatric gynaecology, where there is a lack of such specialised centres, we do not believe that patients will not find their way to us.
