"After initial familiarisation with the service by children, parents and professional staff, we have managed to stabilise the daily operation. For some children, adaptation to the new environment was slow. We always approached each child individually, taking into account their age and abilities," says Mgr. Daniela Korosová, head of the NEMO children's group.
The aim of the teachers and the hospital management was to create a pleasant environment that would be physically, psychologically and socially safe for the children, their parents and the staff. "Children should feel comfortable and confident in the nursery, which I hope we are achieving. We have had new children arriving during the year and at the same time several children leaving for catchment nurseries in their local area from the first of September," says Mrs Koros.
During the summer, the kindergarten managed to organize a summer suburban camp, two runs in total. The camp was designed for children of hospital employees who attend Grade 1 in primary school. The first run of the summer suburban camp was held in July and the camp play was in the spirit of prehistoric times (see photo gallery). "In August, we continued with the second run and the children were accompanied by fairy tale characters all week long. Professional teaching staff with experience in children's leisure activities were provided for both runs. We have had very positive feedback on the implementation of the suburban camp and are already thinking about the camps next year," says the head of the hospital's kindergarten.
From September, the children and teachers of the NEMO children's group will have an "imaginary" start of the new school year. "We currently have 27 children registered for attendance and we are still hearing from more interested children. In the new school year we would like to take a trip with the children to see animals, visit a theatre performance for children, a joint event with parents and a pre-Christmas photo shoot for children. We are looking forward to welcoming new children and we hope they will enjoy their time at Nemo," says Mrs. Korosová about her plans for the coming months.
