Promotion of Hořovice Hospital at the Karlštejn Castle Festival

10. 3. 2014

The Hořovice Hospital will be represented for the first time at the traditional Karlštejn Castle Festival, which will take place on Sunday 16 March 2014.

An ambulance and paramedics from the Hořovice Hospital will be available to visitors of the Karlštejn Festival between 10 am and 6 pm in the meadow by the bridge over the Berounka River. The paramedics will measure blood pressure and glycaemia values and provide specialised lung examinations - spirometry. The paramedics will also provide information about the treatment and prevention options provided by the Hořovice Hospital. Last but not least, promotional materials of the hospital will be distributed to visitors.

This promotion is part of a new programme of the Hořovice Hospital to promote the health of the population in the Beroun region. "This is to show the public that our goal is not only to treat people, but also to prevent their health", says Luděk Pelikán, M.D., Director of Hořovice Hospital. He also recalls that since last year the hospital has been organising various educational programmes, presentations and lectures.

Among the new projects to be implemented in the coming months, Luděk Pelikán mentions, for example, the preventive programmes of the transfusion department. This largest transfusion station of the Central Bohemian Region is launching special preventive programmes for its 11,000 donors from April 2014, including consultation with a specialist. They are called "FIT WOMAN" or "FIT MAN" and are aimed at donors up to 40 years old, while the "VITAL WOMAN" or "VITAL MAN" programmes are aimed at donors over 40 years old. These programmes will include, in addition to a medical history, examinations needed to further analyse the patient's health status - physical examinations including an orientation examination of eyesight and skin tumours, blood tests, urine tests, abdominal ultrasound, ECG or lung X-ray.

In addition, from May 2014, Hořovice Hospital will launch a 24/7 Online Medical Advisory Service on its website. "Patients' various questions will be answered as soon as possible by one of the hospital's doctors, who will also coordinate a team of colleagues from different specialties for this purpose," adds Pelikán.
