Nursery school for employees' children is not a common thing

Employees of the hospital in Hořovice can use a new kindergarten for their children. It can adapt to the working hours of medical staff and thus allows an earlier return to work from maternity leave. This is of key importance for the hospital at a time of a general shortage of doctors and nurses. More information in the following TV Prague report.

Directly on the premises of the hospital in Hořovice we can find an architecturally very inspiring building. The sun can enter it from all sides and inside it plays with all colours. At first glance it is obvious that children live here and that they are happy. In short, the kindergarten as it should be.

"Our employer decided to set up a children's group because the health workers have different working hours to those of conventional employees. We don't usually have eight-hour shifts, but nurses often serve 12 hours and then they have the problem of picking up children at nurseries. Another problem is that the nurseries are currently very crowded," said Kateřina Vicková, marketing specialist at Hořovice Hospital.

"Our children work according to the framework education programme, we have created a school curriculum according to that, so the regime is synoptic with the regime in kindergartens," said Lenka Šedivá, a kindergarten teacher.

There is, of course, room for rest in this regime.

"These cots are very nice, the children feel like they are in a nest and it was no problem at all for them to snuggle in them," said Lenka Šedivá.

"The mothers - the nurses are coming back to work earlier and of course it's not just about the nurses, but also the doctors and other staff who work here," said Katerina Vicková.

Corporate nurseries are quite common in many European countries. In our country, it is more of an innovative approach.

"We approached it quite early. I think that this project is still in its infancy in the Czech Republic, but we understood quite early that it was needed because we need to support the return to work and to meet the employees," said Kateřina Vicková.

The nursery at the hospital in Hořovice has a total of 24 children and is also surrounded by a nice garden with a freshly grown lawn and lots of toys. So everyone is looking forward to the spring when they will be able to enjoy it properly.
