MUDr. Michal Průša, Director of NH : "For me the most valuable people remain"

1. 2. 2016

"Hořovice is the smallest town in the Czech Republic that can boast such a large range of health services in a comprehensive acute care hospital. I believe that the inhabitants of the town and the surrounding area are aware of this advantage and that they have noticed the positive changes that have taken place in our hospital over the last few years, especially since its privatisation (2007). Nevertheless, I would like to briefly mention what has changed in the hospital in the last year, what we have achieved and what we are proud of," says the director of Hořovice.

The year 2016 has recently begun and few people in the current hustle and bustle realise that the hospital will celebrate sixty years since the laying of its foundation stone in the middle of this year. Even though the hospital was not fully operational until several years later, it is obvious that few citizens of Hořovice and the surrounding area remember a time when they often had to travel far to get health care. Over the years, the hospital has become part of the town and its services have become commonplace.

The reconstruction of the hospital has made it bigger and more beautiful, not only with a new exterior, but also with renovated interior spaces and the range of services provided. Patients in all wards can now enjoy the comfort of the new spacious and well-equipped rooms, which, by reducing the number of beds, provide patients with greater privacy. Most of the wards have not only grown, but intermediate beds with increased levels of patient monitoring have also been built for the safety and improvement of patient treatment.

The outpatient clinics and common areas of the hospital were also renovated. The renovation of the hospital entrance, including the staircase, is currently being completed. The increasing number of surgical procedures has led to the construction of a fourth central operating theatre. The immediate surroundings of the hospital building have also been beautified, with repairs to pavements and green areas. The internal car park was also extended. At the end of last year, the clinical laboratories were opened in newly built and equipped premises. The year 2015 thus became another year of the long-term reconstruction process of the Hořovice hospital. Some other works will still be carried out this year, but they will not affect the operation of the inpatient facilities.

So what is still to come in the near future?

Currently, the reconstruction of the kitchen and the construction of a canteen for employees, which will also become a multifunctional lecture hall, are being completed. The former operating theatres are also being renovated and will be used as a small inpatient ward in the future. Some outpatient clinics, especially the dental department, are still awaiting renovation. This year, the pharmacy on the hospital premises will be rebuilt and enlarged. This year, thanks to the helpfulness of the mayor and councillors of Hořovice, the long-standing parking problem in front of the hospital will be solved, where a parking lot will be built and the access roads will be modified. There are also plans to expand the OCHRIP, build a kindergarten for the children of the employees, and a new building with more space for central reception, new operating theatres and intensive care beds is also in the pipeline.

On the threshold of 2016, the Hořovice hospital can boast not only its appearance but also a wide range of medical services. The hospital has a number of inpatient wards and dozens of outpatient clinics that provide services under the guidance of experts and with the participation of external specialists. The aim of our efforts is to provide quality care for patients from Hořovice and Berounsko. Thanks to the growing reputation of our departments, patients from all over the country are increasingly coming to Hořovice. We are succeeding in expanding the spectrum of specialist care. The hospital treats patients with increasingly complicated and specialised diseases. We also work closely with our sister hospital in Beroun, where patients are often treated and rehabilitated.

I am proud of our medical staff

All the success of Hořovice Hospital depends primarily on its employees. Nearly 700 people work here. Personally, I am proud to lead a facility whose employees I can be proud of. Even though, thanks to our owner, the Hořovice Hospital has been almost completely renovated and equipped with the most modern equipment, the people who work here remain the most valuable to me. I admire our nurses, who have managed to cope with the changes in the education system and many of them now have a university degree and are not only proficient in their field of expertise, but also behave in an exemplary manner towards patients. Although they spend a great deal of time in the hospital and put in considerable work effort, they are able to look after their families well.

I am proud of the achievements of our doctors who are treating more and more patients with quality and most of them with a smile on their face despite the high work and time demands. I also appreciate the support staff, many of whom have been able to be proficient assistants to the medical staff and some have even managed to graduate and upgrade their qualifications. I am proud that so far we have been able to build the hospital on friendly relationships not only between the medical staff with each other but also in the relationship between the medical staff and the patients. I hope that together we will continue to overcome the challenges that are sure to face us in the future and not be discouraged in our efforts to build the reputation of our hospital. In conclusion, I would like to thank all the employees for the fact that working in the hospital is not just a simple job for them, but that they leave a piece of themselves here so that everyone has a share in how the hospital looks and what its name is.

I wish all the staff and patients that everything continues to go well in the new year 2016.
