This event was initiated by the Hořovice hospital on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, which is traditionally celebrated on 14 June and was declared by the World Health Organization in 2003. The aim of this annual campaign is to raise awareness of the need for safe blood derivatives and it is mainly paid as a thank you to all blood donors for their life-saving work," emphasises Jana Šrámková, head nurse at the Hořovice blood transfusion station.
The concert took place on Friday, 15 June and was primarily intended for jubilee blood donors and their relatives. The aim of the event was to popularize blood donation and to attract new donors, especially young people from Hořovice and Berounsko. Invited guests were greeted by Ing. Sotirios Zavalianis, the owner of Hořovice Hospital, who publicly thanked them for donating blood to help those who are in danger of their lives. The transfusion department of the Hořovice Hospital registers over eleven thousand donors and represents the largest blood donation point in the entire Central Bohemia Region. Many professional and interest associations and undoubtedly the jubilee donors have a great share in this success.
Among the guests of honour at the patriotic event was Dr. Ing. Jiří Peřina, the mayor of Hořovice, who also greeted all those present (see the introductory photo). The mayor of Hořovice is one of the jubilee donors and can boast about a hundred donations. Before the concert started, a raffle was held, the winner of which was Mr. Jaroslav Rybka (56), from nearby Komárov, a donor with 75 donations, who won a holiday in Greece for two people for 50.000 CZK.
Mrs Šrámková, a health worker and deputy mayor of Hořovice in one person, told us that in 2017 alone, 518 donors came to donate blood for the first time, a hundred more than in the previous year. "I most appreciate those who positively promote donation further and bring new donors from their family or from their circle of friends, colleagues or neighbours to Hořovice," said head nurse Šrámková. "The most touching sight is when all the donation chairs are filled with family and other family members are still waiting to be donated. Some donors, before it is time to stop donating because of their old age, bring a successor from the family because they take donating blood as their civic duty," said the Hořovice nurse.
The rest of the evening belonged to Miro Žbirk and his band, who managed to enthuse everyone present with their hits and create an unforgettable atmosphere.
