This event is held on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day, which is traditionally celebrated on 14 June. "The day was declared by the World Health Organization in 2003. Donating blood is often the only option that makes the difference in saving a person. The aim of this annual campaign is to raise awareness of the need for safe blood derivatives and it is mainly paid as a thank you to all blood donors for their life-saving work", says Jana Šrámková, head nurse of the Hořovice blood transfusion station.
This is the first benefit concert organised by the Hořovice Hospital for donors of this precious fluid. Tickets for the concert were almost completely given away to 400 jubilee donors as a token of gratitude. The purpose of the event is to popularize blood donation, which is still in short supply. Last but not least, the purpose of the event is to attract new donors, especially young people from the Berounsko region.
"Events focused on blood donation are not new in Hořovice", says Jana Šrámková. She adds with an understandable amount of pride that the Hořovice Transfusion Station is the largest of its kind in the entire Central Bohemia Region. Last year alone, more than 11,000 donors passed through its gates. A large share of this success is due to a number of professional and interest associations. Undoubtedly, these include the Hořovice Mothers, members of the Police of the Czech Republic from Beroun, Rudná, Zbiroh (see photo from Friday's blood donation, which was attended by 15 members of the Police of the Czech Republic), students of Beroun secondary schools, SDH Drahlovice, Žebrák, Tlustice and a number of sports clubs such as rugby players, Beroun Bears, etc.
"Our transfusion station is also very grateful to several hundred jubilee donors who come to donate the most precious and irreplaceable fluid several times a year. It is necessary to organize these events, as there are more long-term donors, but fewer new ones", says head nurse Jana Šrámková. She adds that young donors were the primary target of the "Do you love? Donate blood!", which the Hořovice blood transfusion station organised this February on the occasion of St Valentine's Day.
