Hořovické Transfuzní oddělení velmi úzce spolupracuje i s Českým registrem dárců krvetvorných buněk.

The Transfusion Department is the largest collection point in the entire Central Bohemia Region. Over 12,000 donors pass through the gates of the Hořovice Transfusion Station every year. A large share of this high number is due to a number of professional and interest associations. These undoubtedly include members of the Police of the Czech Republic, high school students, volunteer fire brigades, a number of sports clubs and, of course, dozens of jubilee donors.

The building of the blood transfusion station is part of the building complex of NH Hospital a.s. - Hospital Hořovice. It is a ground-floor building standing to the right of the gatehouse. The entrance for blood donors is on the right side of the building.

Donors can make an appointment by phone between 10:00 and 14:00 at 311 559 402 or 311 559 555, or they can come after receiving a fixed-term invitation. Donors can also use this telephone number for any questions they may have, as well as to contact the doctors in the transfusion department (311 559 401).

The donor must present his/her ID card or similar identification, health insurance card, blood donor card (unless he/she is donating blood for the first time).

As of 12 December 2025, every donor whose blood is drawn will receive a meal voucher worth CZK 250.

Old vouchers issued before 11/12/2025 can be redeemed at the locations listed below. Please note that due to the new remuneration system, donors are no longer reimbursed for travel.

Before donating blood and its components, it is necessary to read the Instructions for Blood Donors

Who can be a blood donor

Any healthy person between the ages of 18 and 65 can donate blood; people under the age of 60 are accepted as first-time donors. The donor does not have to be a citizen of the Czech Republic, but should have at least long-term residence here and in any case good communication in Czech must be possible. He/she must show a valid ID card (passport in exceptional cases) and a health insurance card in the Czech Republic.

Restrictions on donation

Persons with a history of infectious hepatitis, especially type B or C, syphilis, tuberculosis, certain tropical diseases cannot donate blood.

Due to the prevalence of hepatitis A (viral hepatitis A) in the Czech Republic, we ask donors to postpone donation for 50 days (= incubation period) in case of knowing risk contact. In case of surveillance/surveillance ordered by the health service, no blood or blood components can be collected during the surveillance/surveillance period. In case of illness, donation can be made 1 year after recovery. Thank you for your understanding.

Other infectious diseases are only temporarily excluded from donation (1 to 2 years after recovery) - e.g., infectious hepatitis A, infectious mononucleosis, brucellosis, Lyme disease, gonorrhea, etc.
For non-infectious diseases of various organs (heart, lungs, digestive tract, kidneys, liver, etc.), donors are usually excluded temporarily or permanently, depending on the severity of the disease. In any case, persons with cancer cannot donate blood.

After surgical procedures, including piercings and tattoos, the earliest you can donate blood is 4 months.
Also permanently excluded are people with diabetes, severe allergies, people with epilepsy, haemophiliacs and people who have been treated in the past with pituitary (pituitary gland) hormones - e.g. growth hormone.
Also excluded from donation are people from groups with increased risk behaviour, especially with regard to HIV infection, such as people involved in prostitution, drug and alcohol addiction.

In a number of cases - e.g. allergies, medication use, etc. - the doctor decides on eligibility for donation after individual consultation with the donor.

Under current EU rules, women can donate whole blood up to 4 times a year and men 5 times a year.
The shortest interval between donations in our department is 10 weeks. One blood donation is 450 ml.

Certain medical and other circumstances may temporarily prevent you from donating blood. It is therefore necessary to take these into account when choosing a suitable date for your donation.

  • Women and girls should not donate blood during their menstrual period and 2 - 3 days after it ends;
  • after a tooth extraction or minor surgery in the mouth, wait 7 days before visiting our department;
  • after a minor surgical procedure where disposable suture material has been used (e.g. removal of a freckle), wait to donate blood until the wound has healed completely;
  • after minor surgery, even with the use of an endoscope or catheter, wait 4 months;
  • also after a surgery in which you have received a transfusion, you must wait 4 months until the next blood donation;
  • acupuncture, as well as cosmetic interventions using needles ( earrings, tattoos, piercings) result in a 4-month waiting period;
  • after a pregnancy terminated by childbirth, but also by miscarriage or abortion, blood donation must wait 6 months after removal of the foetus; after the end of breastfeeding, it must wait 1 month;
  • an attached tick - wait 1 month;
  • common infections and viruses - 14 days;
  • 14 days after receiving antibiotics.

In some cases, such as vaccination, taking medication ( contraception is not an obstacle), staying in tropical (disease) areas, the decision is made individually and it is therefore advisable to consult a doctor ( tel. 311 559 401).

How to prepare for the collection

The minor restrictions associated with preparation for the collection are mainly related to diet and begin 24 hours before the expected collection. Exercise is not recommended the day before or on the day of the collection, as it may skew some readings. However, starvation can have the same effect !!!

One of the persistent misconceptions is that it is necessary to come to the blood donation fasting, but this sometimes leads to a feeling of weakness after the donation. Those who are used to having breakfast do not have to skip breakfast( we provide tea, coffee and a roll for refreshments). You just need to modify your food composition a little, that is, 24 hours before the scheduled collection, do not eat fatty food, do not drink alcoholic beverages and milk.

Before donating blood and its components, you should read the Instructions for blood donors
