Follow-up intensive care for children

The Children's Intensive Care Unit (CICU) provides multidisciplinary chronic intensive and resuscitation care to children of all ages who are severely or terminally ill. These are children with various types of diagnoses chronically affecting basic life functions, whose support is still needed to varying degrees. These include children who have suffered severe polytrauma with persistent sequelae, craniocerebral trauma with subsequent effects on brain function and varying degrees of impaired consciousness, up to the level of vigilant coma, genetic defects, as well as paediatric cancer patients in the terminal stage where treatment options have been exhausted.

The Children's Intensive Care Unit provides multidisciplinary chronic intensive and resuscitation care to children of all ages who are very seriously or terminally ill.

Children with various types of diagnoses chronically affecting basic life functions continue to require support to varying degrees. For example, children with severe polytrauma with persistent sequelae, craniocerebral injuries with consequent effects on brain function, and varying degrees of impairment of consciousness up to vigilant coma, upper spinal cord injuries with inability of spontaneous ventilation, a spectrum of neurological diagnoses, genetic defects, inborn errors of metabolism, as well as paediatric oncology patients in the terminal stage, where treatment options have been exhausted.

All patient information will be given only after the previously designated password has been provided.

  • Visits to the department are possible at any time of the day and without limitations.

  • The stay of family members and acquaintances with the child is always subject to the instructions of the medical staff.

  • It is forbidden to arbitrarily use any toiletries, ointments, compensatory aids, etc. with children. Everything must be consulted with the nurse caring for the child.

  • Visitors must certainly not touch the equipment at the child's bedside in any way.

  • The instructions, advice and recommendations of the ward doctors and nurses must be followed.

  • It is forbidden to bring live flowers into the ward.


Information on health and nursing care


Information about health and nursing care is confidential and can only be disclosed with the consent of the legal guardian to persons designated in writing by the legal guardian on the Informed Consent for Hospital Admission.

Information is also given over the telephone by providing the password designated for communication.

Information regarding nursing care is provided by the nurse caring for the patient. Information on health status is provided by the physician.

The department is equipped with the latest medical technology, such as ventilators for artificial pulmonary ventilation, wide range monitoring, including monitoring of brain functions, arterial pressure, infusion pumps, dosing devices, etc.
In addition to the perfect medical equipment, the ward has a large number of compensatory aids to set the perfect comfort of the child on the bed, including active anti-substance mattresses.
High-quality, highly specialized nursing care is provided in accordance with current scientific knowledge in the field of nursing with interdisciplinary knowledge, skills and attitudes.
