"Last week on Friday, 80 donors out of more than 5 500 registered in our database donated blood. Our big thanks to all of them. To those who came today, we gave premium chocolates donated by the Hořovicko Microregion. After the collection, they also received sandwiches," said Pavlína Nováková , head nurse of the Hořovice blood transfusion station.
Among the regular donors was Eva Jelšinová from Bavoryně u Zdic, who came for her 80th donation. "I am not the only one from our family. My husband and sons are blood donors. I myself started donating at the age of 27, when I already had children. We donate blood to help other people who need blood because it cannot be produced yet," said Mrs. Jensik.
She received a digital weather station and small souvenir gifts from the hospital in Hořovice for her many years of dedication. "Every donation is meaningful. Blood can save a life and we greatly appreciate everyone who donates it. We would like to thank Mrs. Jenšíková and all other donors for their dedication, time and long-term support," said the head nurse of the Horovice blood transfusion station.
World Blood Donor Day has been held regularly since 2004. It is dedicated to celebrating and promoting blood donation, which is essential to preserving the lives and health of millions of people. This special day is always celebrated under a different slogan that highlights the important aspects of donation. This year's motto is 'Give blood - give hope. Together we save lives!" emphasises that blood donors change the lives of those in need of blood or other transfusion preparations.
The Hořovice Hospital Transfusion Station is the largest blood collection site in the Central Bohemia Region. In 2024, more than 11.5 thousand free donations took place here. Professional associations such as police officers from Berounsko, students from Hořovice and Berounsko secondary schools, volunteer fire brigades, sports clubs and regional associations such as the Hořovicko Microregion, a voluntary association of 37 municipalities, have a large share in this. "We thank their mayors for the premium chocolates they donated for our donors on this year's World Blood Donor Day. Many of the mayors and deputy mayors also donate blood. Some of them are even among the jubilee donors," Pavlína Nováková recalled.
Any healthy individual aged 18 to 65 can donate blood. Anyone under 60 years of age can become a first-time donor. Donors and first-time donors can make an appointment at the Hořovice Hospital blood transfusion station by calling 311 559 402 on weekdays from 10 am to 2 pm. Donations take place every working day from 6 am to 11 am.
