Anti-epidemic measures for parturients and attendants

11. 1. 2021

In order to better protect our staff and patients in the Sixth Day Unit, all parturients will be required to have the COVID-19 antigen test starting Friday, January 8, 2021.

Antigen test in parturients

"From Friday 8 January 2021, based on the consent of the hospital management, antigenic testing of all incoming parturients to the Maternity Hospital U Sluneční brány has been approved. Clients will be given an antigenic swab for the detection of COVID-19 on admission to the delivery room, the result of which is known within 30 minutes of collection," described Leoš Teslík, MD, Head of the Gynaecology and Obstetrics Department of the Hořovice Hospital.

Protective equipment for attendants at childbirth

On the basis of a resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic of 7 January 2021, we require the third person accompanying the child at birth, which is the other parent of the child or a person living in the same household with the parent, to use a surgical drape as a minimum respiratory protection.

"The use of improvised or cloth drapes is insufficient. If the accompanying person does not have a surgical drape, he or she can purchase one for CZK 20 from a vending machine at the central reception of the hospital. Of course, we would ideally like to see escorts using protective equipment with higher protection, such as the FFP2 respirator," said the head of the hospital in Horovice.

COVID-19 positive parturients

"We would also like to appeal for awareness of our clients that if they are diagnosed positive for COVID-19, ordered to be quarantined, or have any risky contact with a COVID-19 positive person, they should report this fact by calling 311555000 under the prefix "6 - emergency line of delivery rooms" before arriving at the delivery room. The reason for this appeal is the current tense epidemiological situation, when it is necessary to protect both the staff of our maternity hospital and other mothers after childbirth as a preventive measure," added MUDr. Teslík.
