The six finalists in this category, all of which were announced, could be selected from the website www.sestramehosrdce.cz. The most votes in the online poll went to our Andrea Růžičková, who won the Sister of My Heart award in 2016. This year's Nurse of the Year winner in the Direct Nursing Care category was Bc. Jitka Coufalová, station nurse of the Department of Paediatric and Resuscitation and Intensive Care at the Ostrava University Hospital, in the second category Education and Management won Mgr. Jiří Čáp, head nurse of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the IKEM in Prague.
The award ceremony of the 16th annual competition, organized by the Mladá fronta publishing house, took place on Tuesday 28 March 2017 at the Karlín Music Theatre, Prague. Andrea Růžičková charmed all the visitors of the Karlin theatre, the jury and the moderator Libor Bouček with her smile and natural charm. Her candidacy was very energetically supported by many colleagues, not only from Hořovice, but also from the sister hospital in Beroun and the Multiscan Cancer Centre in Pardubice. Many satisfied patients, as well as family members, relatives and neighbours from her native Stašov also cheered Andrea on in this competition.
About twenty colleagues came to Prague to support Andrea, led by Blanka Červenková, head nurse of the Hořovice hospital, and Milan Pastucha, MD, head of the Hořovice orthopaedics department (see photo). Andrea Růžičková thanked all her colleagues for their support and trust in her during the competition.
The Nurse of the Year competition was again this year under the auspices of Dagmar Havlová on behalf of the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97. The patronage was traditionally taken over by the Minister of Health of the Czech Republic , Miloslav Ludvík, and the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs of the Czech Republic , Michaela Marksová. The competition is sponsored by the Czech Nurses Association. The winners in the individual categories were decided during the gala evening by an expert jury, in which Martina Šochmanová, PhD, President of the Czech Nurses Association, took the post of chairperson.
