If the visitor does not have a card and does not apply for one, the pharmacy staff will inform the visitor of this option and then explain how to proceed. "There is still interest in the card, both among senior citizens and younger clients. The interested party comes to the pharmacy and is given a form to fill out, which includes an extract from the Personal Data Act. On the basis of filling in the application form, a client card is then issued to the client, almost immediately," described the establishment of the drug card by the head of the Hořovice Hospital Pharmacy, Mgr. Tomáš Veverka.
The drug card is a plastic card with a barcode under which the patient's record is kept in the pharmacy system, with the entire history of the drugs that the patient has picked up at the pharmacy. The card also contains notes about the patient's health status, which can help the pharmacist to better navigate the patient's health issues. "The drug card enables us to provide comprehensive advice to patients. With their consent, we can track their medication history and better advise them. What patients often welcome, of course, are discounts on selected products, which can be quite substantial. As an example, I could mention the Omron M6 Comfort tonometer, which normally costs more than CZK 1,800 and clients with a drug card can buy it for CZK 1,600," added Tomáš Veverka.
