Events focused on blood donation are not a novelty at the Hořovice hospital. "Last year alone, more than 12,144 free donors passed through its gates, which is a record number for our station," says Jana Šrámková, head nurse of the Hořovice transfusion station, with a certain amount of pride. "Of this number, we took 11,497 free blood donations, which is 836 more than in 2016. Of these donors, 6,794 were men and 4,703 were women. Last year, 518 donors came to donate blood for the first time and this is exactly 100 more donors than in 2016. Since we cooperate with the Czech Hematopoietic Cell Donor Registry, we contributed 65 donations to the registry in 2017," concludes the impressive evaluation of last year's results.
Just like last year, the sisters of the Hořovice Transfusion Station prepared a gift for all those who donate blood on Valentine's Day. In cooperation with the hospital café, they provided pink hearts for women and brown hearts for men.
A lot of the credit for the first place of the Horovice Transfusion Station in the Central Bohemia Region goes not only to the jubilee donors, but also to the associations, societies and interest groups that regularly donate blood. Among the most diligent are the Police of the Czech Republic, not only from Beroun and Hořovice (the event is organized by spokeswoman Marcela Pučelíková), but also Zbiroh and now also Příbram. Other very exemplary donors are students from the Gymnasium J. B. Beroun (organized by Mgr. Marie Štěpničková), SZŠ Beroun (organized by Mgr. Hana Macháčková) and Gymnasium VH Hořovice (organized by Mgr. Martin Solař). We must not forget the firefighters from Křešín, Tlustice, Žebrák and Drahelčice.
Examples in the field of blood donation are various local government officials headed by some mayors. Among the jubilee donors is the Mayor of Hořovice Dr. Ing. Jiří Peřina, who has donated blood 96 times and his wife 75 times. In addition, he brought his two children to donate blood. Mr. Antonín Merhaut, the mayor of Komárovo, has donated blood 57 times. The newly started to organize the event "Microregion Hořovicko donates blood" donor Ing. Miroslava Pat'avová.
"I must not forget the floorball players from Berounsko, representatives of the political group ANO and motorcyclists. More recently, there was an event organised by blood donor Lucie Menclova called "Hořovické maminky donate blood", which was attended not only by mothers but also by fathers," says Mrs Šrámková.
"I apologize to those I may have forgotten, but nevertheless, to all the blood donors, organizers, all our co-workers and sympathizers, a huge thank you for their dedication, willingness, helpfulness and support," the Hořovice nurse concludes the list of thanks.
During the past year:
- 227 donors received a bronze plaque for ten free blood donations
- 193 donors received a silver plaque for twenty free blood donations
- 134 donors received a gold plaque for forty free blood donations
- 39 donors received the Gold Cross 3rd level for eighty free blood donations
- 7 donors were awarded the Gold Cross 2nd degree for one hundred and twenty free blood donations
