The home team FK Komárov faced Viktoria Plzeň, and although the match ended in a 6:2 victory for the guests, the most important result of the day was the amount of 60 000 CZK, intended to support small patients of DIOP Hospital Hořovice. This unique facility provides comprehensive care for children with serious life-limiting illnesses and their families. Established in 2018 thanks to the AKESO healthcare holding company, its owner Sotirios Zavalianis has been investing in the development of modern and highly specialised healthcare in the Czech Republic for a long time.
The football match also included an auction of a signed jersey of Pilsen striker Raffi Durosinmi, which also involved the Chief Medical Officer, Mahulena Exnerová, MD. The cheque for 60 000 CZK was then ceremoniously handed over by the Mayor of Komárov Jaroslav Klekner and the Sports Director of FK Komárov Luděk Kaufman to the representatives of DIOP. "We greatly appreciate the work of all the employees of this department. Last year we already organized the first charity event in Komárov and we wanted to continue it. This year we managed to welcome Viktoria Plzeň and thanks to the high attendance we raised twice the amount of last year's event. We are very grateful to the headmistress Mahulena Exnerova, head nurse Vladimíra Kořanová and the whole DIOP team for their care for seriously ill children. We would like this tradition to be repeated every year," said Mayor Jaroslav Klekner.
" The amount that was raised is really beautiful. We are very appreciative that the Komárov football players under the auspices of the municipality of Komárov chose our DIOP department. It is a beautiful gesture that we appreciate very much," added Ing. Michala Malát, MHA, the operational and economic deputy of the hospital.
Mahulena Exnerová, M.D., the guarantor of the development of comprehensive paediatric care and head of the Department of Supportive and Palliative Care at the hospital, emphasised that the funding will help in care beyond the normal reimbursement by health insurance companies. We are also investing in further training for our team to make our care even better. Thank you very much for allowing us to be part of this beautiful sporting and human event."
