Health Day in Beroun

10. 4. 2018

The World Health Organization was founded on 7 April 1948, and this date was declared World Health Day. For the second year, the Hořovice Hospital organized an awareness-raising event on this day focused on prevention. This year's theme was Health for All, across ages and nationalities.

On Saturday, 7 April 2018, the Beroun markets also featured a stand of the Hořovice Hospital and the Beroun Rehabilitation Hospital. Medical staff measured blood sugar levels and blood pressure and held talks with visitors on healthy lifestyle. Many educational materials related to the topic were distributed. In return for the examinations, the hospital health staff distributed fruit to encourage good and healthy eating habits.

"Approximately 400 people stopped by. I'm very happy that hospitals hold this type of event. People should think about prevention. Even if a person feels healthy, he or she should not forget about preventive check-ups, which can detect serious diseases at a stage when they are treatable," commented František Vlček, MD, PhD. on the event.

"It is astonishing how many people admit that they do not pay attention to their health and do not visit a doctor as part of their preventive check-ups. Almost half of the people who visited us on Saturday were recommended to visit a general practitioner on the basis of the measured values," added Mgr. Blanka Hošková, quality manager of the hospital in Hořovice.
