On Saturday, 9 June 2018, the neonatology department of Hořovice Hospital organized the fourth garden festival for children whose mothers gave birth in 2015 before the 35th week of pregnancy and who underwent intensive care in the neonatology department. Despite the bad weather, a record 50 children accompanied by their parents and siblings gathered in the Hořovice castle park, not far from the Sun Gate, after which the Hořovice maternity hospital takes its name. In total, over 150 people attended the celebration.
The children and their parents and siblings were welcomed byMUDr. Milena Dokoupilová, head of the neonatology in Hořovice, together with nurses and doctors from the same department. A rich programme and lots of games and other activities were prepared for the children and their companions. "This year the weather was not quite right, but we still had the opportunity to spend a wonderful afternoon with the children and their parents," says Milena Dokoupilová, MD. "The children performed various tasks for which they received stamps, and at the end they received a souvenir medal and lots of gifts."
The most popular "toy" of this year's meeting was the mare Etna, who was brought to the castle garden by her sister Jessica. The horse was ridden by all the children. Three girls were also in the centre of attention of all present: Sofina, Valinka and Nelinka, our triplets, who celebrated their third birthday the day before the meeting. It seems that the girls are fully aware of their uniqueness and importance, because every time someone picks up their camera or mobile phone to take a picture of them, they pose nicely and shout in unison...
The organization of the event is again this year mainly behind Mgr. Kamila Prádová, head nurse of neonatology, and the nursing team of this department. During the group photo session, Chief Nurse Dokoupilova thanked her nurses for their excellent preparation and organization and the parents for accepting our invitation. At the same time, she expressed her conviction that a great future awaits their little ones, as "they chose the most difficult thing right at the beginning of their life path". She also promised that this tradition will continue next year in the neonatology in Hořovice.
And feelings from this year's meeting? "In a word - wonderful. Our nurses and their own children helped at the celebration. It makes us happy that even after three years the parents take the time to come to us. This is yet another reward for our very demanding work," concludes the Hořovice headmistress.
