For this reason, the idea of setting up a stand right here and offering passers-by the opportunity to have their blood pressure and blood sugar measured or to find out the ratio of muscle, fat and water in the body by means of a special scale. As a reward, the participants received not only valuable information about their health, but also apples, oranges and pears to take home. In case the results of the orientation examinations did not come out within the norm, the visitors were given contacts to the specialized outpatient clinics of the hospitals in Hořovice and Beroun for possible appointments and more detailed examinations.
"We will definitely repeat similar events in the future," said Mgr. Blanka Hošková, quality manager of the hospital in Hořovice. "Prevention is very important and we are trying to do this not only on World Health Day. During today's event alone, we checked 450 visitors to the Beroun market and in about 20% of cases pathological values were measured. Many of the participants admitted that they had not had a preventive check-up with their general practitioner for many years, and we are trying to gradually change this approach to health care and especially to prevention. Prevention and quick detection of any disease is essential for its subsequent treatment," added Blanka Hošková.
