"During the workshop we held on 25 November, 8 procedures were performed for haemorrhoidal disease, rectal fistulas and pilonidal sinus," said Petr Zeithaml, MD, head of the surgical department.
We can now schedule the procedure within a month of the appointment
"During the laser procedure, we insert a special 360° patented laser fiber into the fistula or hemorrhoid, which destroys the fistula, pilonidal sinus or hemorrhoid in question," describes Petr Zeithaml, MD, Chief of Surgery.
"The procedure is in great demand among patients. The laser method ensures a relatively early return to normal activities, thanks to the absence of an open wound after conventional surgery. The procedure is performed under full anaesthesia, but within a very short period of time, approximately 5 minutes in a day surgery." The procedure is not technically demanding and can be performed by any surgeon after training," says MUDr. Václav Šmíd, who already performs laser surgeries.
The expert guarantor of the workshop was MUDr. Július Örhalmi, Ph.D., FASCRS, MBA, Chairman of the Coloproctology Section of the Czech Surgical Society.
Laser surgery method prevails in fistulas. "We deal with haemorrhoids mainly on an outpatient basis, and surgical solution of the problem is only appropriate at an advanced stage of the disease," adds Örhalmi, M.D., expert guarantor of the workshop.
