A surgical workshop took place in the operating theatre of the Hořovice hospital under the auspices of the head of the surgical department, Martin Oberreiter, MD. During the workshop MUDr. Jiří Jeřábek, general surgeon at Třebíč hospital, demonstrated a minimally invasive operation of abdominal hernia and diastasis of abdominal muscles using a method called e-TEP-Rives-Stoppa.

The participants of the workshop had a unique opportunity to see the work of an expert with their own eyes and ask him questions directly during the operation. A selected doctor from Hořovice Hospital assisted during the surgery and performed part of the procedure. The method, which is relatively young in the surgical world, is regularly performed by MUDr. Jiří Jeřábek to his patients with great success.

"It is a minimally invasive surgery, which causes minimal damage to the abdominal wall. Patients are left with only minor scars after the procedure. Thanks to the gentle procedure, there is also a faster recovery, fewer post-operative complications and, in addition to the excellent cosmetic effect, a faster return to normal life," explains the advantages of the procedure , Chief Medical Officer MUDr. Oberreiter.

The number of patients suffering from abdominal hernia and women with postpartum spacing of the rectus abdominis muscles is not low, and this method is increasingly sought after. Women in particular appreciate the minimal scarring, shorter hospital stay and less postoperative pain.

"I am pleased that this procedure will now also be performed at our department," concludes Chief of Surgery Martin Oberreiter, MD.
