Word from the Director of the Hořovice Hospital

MUDr. Michal Průša, MBA, Director of the Hořovice Hospital to his fellow citizens.

Dear fellow citizens,

I would like to take a moment now on Sunday afternoon, when I have at least a little free time, to write you a few words on my behalf as the hospital director.

I would very much like to thank all those of you who are keeping your fingers crossed for us, especially those of you who are trying to help in a concrete way. Unfortunately, the mood in society has changed in many ways since the first wave of the epidemic last spring. Back then, you helped us in every way you could, and it was evident everywhere that you were behind us health professionals. Everyone here has pitched in... sewing drapes, sending supportive messages and emails. For example, I remember a very kind gift from our Vietnamese compatriots who brought a basket of goodies to our nurses in the covid ward.

But now the situation is very different, the hospital is facing perhaps the biggest threat since last spring. And for the first time, we may not be able to handle the onslaught. I know you're all tired of this strange epidemic year that's been extraordinary for all of us. I only ask that you realize that nurses, orderlies and doctors have not had one day of rest in that year, but have certainly spent it all in extreme fear for their patients and loved ones. It is hard to explain to the layman, but the hardship and dying of our patients leaves indelible marks on each of us, and the last twelve months have been far too much. In short, we are tired, sometimes to death, but we are here and none of us will hesitate to help you if you need our assistance. Nothing has changed on our side since last spring. What has changed, and what I see with sadness in my heart, is the situation in society and how the role of health professionals is sometimes interpreted. I do not know, nor do I want to look into who is behind this. But what I find deeply personally offensive is the suggestion that we are not doing our job responsibly and that we are not using the medicines that we should be using.

I myself am proud of how quickly we have been able to adopt innovations from the world and how the Hořovice Hospital has always been one of the first in the country to introduce a new drug into treatment. I can safely say that our patients are treated here as modern as possible. Moreover, our work is not only treatment, but the same people who stand at the bedsides also carry out examinations in the collection centres. We'll do our best. Thorough vaccination is the only thing that will protect us from the danger of an infection that could mean death for one of our loved ones.

So please hang in there a little longer, be good to us, and we will do our best to get this over with as quickly as possible. But in the end, let me say that I stand behind each and every one of our employees, and because I know what they have all accomplished this year, I will defend them to the best of my ability against all injustices.
