When children draw to children

Our paediatric patients spend varying lengths of time on the ward, during which time their hospital room becomes their temporary home. We know how important a friendly and nice environment is in the healing process. And who else should know more about the needs of children than the children themselves. Therefore, to make the stay at the children's inpatient ward of Hořovice Hospital more pleasant for the children and their parents, we approached the Václav Talich Primary Art School in Beroun.

"Thanks to the wonderful cooperation with the Beroun art school, we have managed to decorate the inpatient ward with children's drawings," says Mahulena Exnerová, head of the ward at Hořovice Hospital. "For many years, the walls in the corridors of the ward have been decorated with animal motifs, which the children have always liked very much. Since they are often bedridden during their illness, we wanted to give them similar decorations in their rooms. We therefore kept the theme of nature and animals. The individual rooms are always decorated with drawings with the same motif, and this motif in the form of a small picture is also on the entrance door to the room. And so, for example, we have the hippo room," he adds. "The hospitalized children really like the decoration and I believe that the pleasant spaces will also help them to recover faster."

"The whole event was named Children to Children and we approached the drawings themselves in this spirit," says the head of the art department , Mgr. Art. Andrea Borovská, under whose guidance the paintings were created, adding: "It was amazing with what enthusiasm our children took up the task, discussed the selected pictures and wished that their picture had been chosen. The overall result is beautiful and I am glad that it has delighted not only our children but also the children and their parents on the ward."
